Traction Control System

So, I have a 2010 Ranger with the Active Roll Stability, as well as the Traction Control that is always on even in 2WD mode.
It comes with a switch that supposedly turns it 'off,' but it doesn't actually turn it off.
I have been in a couple situations where I have been on either gravel or wet, slick roads, with the traction control off, and because of the fact that I grew up in old trucks with out traction control, I have learned how to maintain control when the truck loses traction.
Anyway, I've been in slick situations where I have lost traction around a corner, and I have been fine until the traction control system kicks in. The one time it put me into an uncontrollable four wheel skid on gravel, and I almost went into a ditch.
Is this something that might just be a factory defect, or is it supposed to actually never turn off?

I am defiantly buying a 06-07 FX4 Level II so I don't have to deal with all the electronic BS and the lowered ride height. It's my favorite looking Ranger and it came with cool stuff. Time to start shopping. Need to get one before they get too old.

LOL....before, yeah. Plus well, it doesn't rain there. lol. Now, he'll have no problem drifting it as I have no problem drifting the truck and it going exactly where I want it to go. But...locker and manual ftw.
