I'm not as close to ford truck as I used to be. (worked there, been in the clay studio, ect.. )
The only thing I can say is that I've not heard a word about a totally new platform. I have however seen a very very quiet V6 diesel in a Ranger.
At idle you could tell. But as soon as he hit the throttle a little it was as quiet as a gas engine.

Ford has publicly announced that the assembly plant where the 2008 Ford Ranger is built (St. Paul, Minnesota) is scheduled to be closed in 2008. Rumor has it is that the Ranger will be reincarnated as a unibody truck (think: Honda Ridgeline) and will be called the F-100. Whether or not it will show up as a 2009 or 2010 model is yet to be seen. Stay tuned, we'll let you know when we hear anything official! In the mean time, check out our Ford Ranger section here. It may or may not look like the current Ranger available outside North America.

This **** with Ford will only hold them back. They need either need to find a new diesel engine supplier (like Cummins) or straighten this crap out. Navistar has been making great advancements in diesel technology lately I think, and it would be a shame to loose them.
While I was searching the 'net I thought WTF is Dodge doing. Well here it is...
Dodge 1500 Diesel
