91 Mazda B2200 and Ranger parts, engines, etc

Ok, last week I bought a 1991 Mazda B2200 and 2 days later it blew up. It over rheated and warped head. Head machined and new gasket, plugs, etc. Next day the timing belt was torn in 2 places, not just 1. Everyone ( mechanics at service garage my stepson works at) is saying change out for a good engine.

My question is would any of the Ranger engines fit in? The thinking here is availability, cost, etc might be cheaper with the Ranger over the Mazda.

It is a 2.2L inline 4, 5 speed tranny, carbed. Not sure of engine code, or where to look for one. Any help ideas, etc appreciated.

Nothing in common.
That's a Japanese truck from before the Ranger and B series "merged".

Not saying you can't DO it, but you'd be breaking some new ground.
