94 ranger, not running - Help.

Hey guys, I have a 94 ranger V6 that has been sitting in the garage undergoing all sorts of fun suspension modification. Re did the brakes too. Got it out side, and finally started after we had to jump it. It was running very very ruff, because the gas is obviously bad. The engine was revving on its own between 500 and 2500 or so, my father, in an attempt to clear the engine out a little (hadn't been ran in a long time - many months) gave it some gas. This is when we discovered the throttle cable sticks. The engine reved to about 5k or 5,500 rpms or so, and since the pedal was stuck to the floor (the cable was stuck) we just shut it off with the key. No we try to start it and it wont. We hear the click of the selonoid, but no sound from the starter motor, like it isnt trying to turn it over. just a "click". The lights dim also. All help apprecited, this truck is going to be my brothers truck to drive around, the truck hes driving now isnt going to last very long. Thanks guys!

Have you tried to turn the engine over by hand with a wrench on the crank pulley bolt? It may be locked up.

I'd charge up the battery before anything and give it another shot...with the cable fixed of course.

Ok, definately gonna check out and make sure the crank can turn. Also gonna check for loose vaccuum lines and the oxygen sensor for the rough idle, although I know its bad gas. Is there anyway reving so high, then immediatly shutting the engine off while reved so high could have damaged the starter?

So, rear of the trucks off the ground, and while in 5th gear we are able to turn the motor over - same as turing it over via the crank, so engine isnt seized or anything. Got the battery charging via jumpers, gonna give it twenty minutes, then we arte gonna try again. I'm wondering if just because it sat for so many months just sitting, that the starter is bad? it did start up earlier, but it took a while for it to go, and by go I mean to try and turn the engine over, once that happened the engine firedright up, all be it with a big black cloud lol.
