the Ranger did it AGAIN!!! had to show up GM's

so last night i'm in bed by about 11:30 and at about 2:30, but phone just start blowing up, like 5 times. I finally pick it up and its my buddy, he's in a ditch in our neighborhood. So i get dressed and take off. As i show up, one of our friends is there trying to pull him out in a single cab Sierra. My buddy in the ditch has a 4 door silverado 4x4 (not exactly small) and that sierra couldn't get him out(of course) he ended up just burning rubber and didn't move him an inch. I told Matt, just get the hell out the way. I busted out the good ole chain, her snug, and BAM. second tug and he came out no problem, and no loss of rubber like my friend Matt. Gotta love a FORD. i could kick my *** though for not telling my gf to bring the camera, those would have been some good pics.

you're a good friend.

i'll never be in that situation.. my friend's all drive Ford Trucks!!! well.. except for my one friend... he drives a maxima.. none of us would probably care if he were laying in a ditch anyways though.. so it's no big deal. lol.

that dont mean crap dude stop using a chain i am not over reacting here. i knew a guy that had a jeep was stuck they where pulling him out and the chain broke and it cut his head off. he is now dead i am not making this crap up..

another guy Drews he had one snap he owns a f-150 it dented all the way up his hood broke his front window.. sadly he still used one after that with his other truck he was doing the pulling came back and dented his tail gate then hit the rear window blew it out and hit his ear and cut his ear up. and also dented the top of the cab and when i say dented it bashed it all in..

its not a matter of if its gonna brake its a matter of WHEN....

good story, but a 7k chain is nothing and will break, its just a matter of when

i broke a 10k tow strap and now i use a 30k just for good measure

its better to be safe than sorry

chains are good for a sustained load but not for snatching like what is done when you are extracting your buddy who buried his chevy... sooner or later your gonna break one link in that chain

way to represent!!!!

and i'm with stone on the chain thing!!! if you have to use one, at least keep some big towels and water in the truck...you can soak the towels down with water to make them heavier...won't stop damage, but it will help absorb some of the blow when something does break

a chain is only as strong as the weakest link. seriously friends don't let friends pull with chains.

I pulled a tahoe out yesterday while in Albuquerque. That was serious fun. I left all my gear down here. Tahoe had slid into some old beater car (I didn't focus much on it) and had dented his driver's door. From that point he became stuck in ice and snow. The guy he hit had some 3/8 in thick rope, about 40 ft of it. I had then double it up and tie off to my tow hook. Popped her into 4hi and reverse, nada. inched up and snagged, nada. Again, snap. 3 of 4 strands doubled up to my truck broke. I braided up the 3 strands, tied off, popped her into 4lo........let's go! I should have taken pics. I had my camera on me, but the guy didn't speak a lick of english. I know enough spanish to get me in trouble. DEFINITELy don't know enough spanish to give him detailed directions like cut wheel, easy on the gas, etc. Those from the area, it was between Washington and San Mateo on Constitution. I froget which neighborhood street it was. All I know is when I left I blew through a stop sign because of the ice. Sure wish they would have gotten around to plowing the residential streets.

I call BS, myth busters proved that its not possible to cut a person in half with a steel wire in a whipping action, let a lone a chain doing so in a straight pull. It didn't cut his head off, it may have killed him or someone, I won't argue that as I don't know the guy. But don't over exagerate a situation to make your story sound bad ***.

Oh, and 99% of the time, people who say "im not making this crap up", are making that crap up.
