Trouble Shooting

The problem is not consistant to start with so im just looking for suggestions. sometimes when i go to leave from a stop it lags like im trying to tow something way too heavy for the truck till bout 5,000 rpms in 1st gear then it'll take off and act normal. if i dont get to 5000 in first it will continue to do this through all the gears. it has been doing this since i got the truck and sometimes it wont do it at all and other times it does it a few times in a row. btw its a 98 with a 2.5 and a 5 speed.

Next time it happens , push in the clutch and see if you can coast for a ways. If not you may have a sticking brake caliper.

^^^Then try to isolate it...

Next time it's doing it, make the next few stops using the parking brake and downshifting (after you get past 5k in 1st to "free" it). Hold the release handle. I know it is awkward, but it'll narrow it down to front or rear sticking, if it is even brakes.

ok changed the fuel filter today and it didnt help. i got the mechanic down the road to drive it and he thinks it could be that the converter is stoped up or that the tps is bad but he wasnt real sure.

That tells me it is NOT the converter.
TPS is a possibility.
