4.0L & Tranny straight into 98 3.0L?

Hey guys!

I have available for 500 dollars a 4.0L and Auto Tranny with 90,000 KMs on it for $500 locally. I can drive to get it.

Does it go straight into my 98 3.0L 2wd? Do I need a new computer or codes? What problems might there be?

My current tranny is almost dead and doing an engine and tranny swap for $500 instead of $1700 for just a tranny rebuild seems much more appealing to me. Especially going to the 4L!!!

EDIT: Would a 3650 5spd manual tran from a Mustang GT fit in my truck?

But he's getting the engine AND trans from the 4.0L. That shouldn't be an issue.

Sorry, I wouldn't know that. I would assume they use a different computer though. I don't know about the wiring harness or anything like that.

If its a 3.0 non flex fuel it will be a simply swap. Hard part will be the just changing to engine and trans.. Everything should plug and play. You may run into a pats issue if the donor has it.

don't forget the little things like throttle cables, mounts, hoses, radiator, etc. when doing a swap like that, although it may be plug and play, it is still better to have a donor truck to make sure you get all the little stuff. if you get just a motor and tranny, you may end up spending another $500 in the rest of the stuff to make it work.
