Snapping noise in 4WD, and other things too
hi -
i'm working on my '89 4x4 v6 (i'm really an amateur, but i like tinkering around). i've replaced my rear leaf spring hangers/shackles, etc with success, but now i have another issue. well, two issues actually.
1. i sometimes hear a snapping sound from the front end when i cut the wheel relatively hard in 4WD - and it happens more often in reverse than when moving forward.
could this be related to the fact that the front drivers side appears to sit approx. 2" lower than the passenger side? if not, why is the cab sitting low?
2. unrelated (i think) to the first problem is that i have an oil leak in my rear drivers side wheel - would it be the wheel bearing seal that needs to be replaced? or could there be an easier solution?
thanks

1. i sometimes hear a snapping sound from the front end when i cut the wheel relatively hard in 4WD - and it happens more often in reverse than when moving forward. That sounds like a bad front axle U-joint http://www.therangerstation.com/tech...ont_Axles.html
could this be related to the fact that the front drivers side appears to sit approx. 2" lower than the passenger side? if not, why is the cab sitting low? Look for a broken spring on the driver side
2. unrelated (i think) to the first problem is that i have an oil leak in my rear drivers side wheel - would it be the wheel bearing seal that needs to be replaced? or could there be an easier solution? There is a seal at the end of the axle, yours appears to be bad. Assuming it isn't the brake wheel cylinder leaking
