Attention guys Ford will build a new Ranger!

the problem with your statement there is that ford HAS it all. they already make a crew cab, regular cab and super cab that are all in the same markets. its feasable that they can variations of all 3 here as well and still have market share. personally, i think a 4 door Ranger would have been more successful in the long run than a SportTrac. id have rather have that than the SuperCab i have now.

i guess it's pretty safe to say you can't make everyone happy all the time!
i think the new truck needs market research on fords behalf, but no matter what they build, how big, what drivetrain, they'll loose some customers. to make losing these customers worthwile, they need to attract a greater number with the new model than it lost. time will tell.

IMO, if I like the re-design and all that, in '11 I'll trade the 02 in and get myself one. I refuse to own a first model year.

i agree with not owning a first model year, or the first of a major change (ie:6.0L diesel!).
i don't think (and certainly hope!) that ford isn't dumb enough to put IRS in any of it's trucks.
i will be really surprized if they offer a diesel engine option. historicly they don't sell well, and that is their main concern as a corporation, what sells. but if gas keeps going up, they maybe will, but i won't be holding my breath.
it's not that they intend for the diesel engines to be cranked up for more power, its just the nature of their engine managment that allows them to be modified.
i will not be surprized if in the future the diesel motors are "locked in", meaning no or very limited changes via the engine managment, to prevent people from melting pistons, scattering bottom end parts or tearing up drivetrain parts and going for warranty!

*hugs my Level II*
And as far as the redesign goes. Expect it to have the same design cue's (inside and out) as the new 2008 Super Duty (much smaller though obviously). The death of Level II caliber offroad equipment is from now on permanent, standard FX4 will be all that is available. Also, expect the STX type street truck package to never come back. The 2.3L DOHC will be given a small displacement boost, and expect the 4.0L SOHC to be replaced by the 3.5L Cyclone V6. The 3.0 OHV V6 will be axed, permanently (it will actually go bye-bye for the 2009 model year, BEFORE the redesign). So, two engines, and three trim options (XL, XLT, FX4). One last thing. There will be a crew cab option, however it will be experimental. Ford will give it one or two years and compare the sales of the crew cab Ranger vs. the sport trac. At the end of the model year(s), Ford will pick the winner and either axe the crew cab option of the Ranger (if the Sport Trac wins) and keep the Sport Trac. Or they will (if the Ranger wins) for the 2011 (or 2012) model year make the crew cab Ranger slightly larger while giving it a small V8 option; meanwhile axing the Sport Trac.

the dakota does not even rank anywhere close to a truck or whatever it is.
you may be interested in the F150.
I am not selling my ranger but i will defiantly want something different in another year or so.

Too big, I don't want a full size. I just need a tad bit more power to pull the boat. The ranger really does a fine job, so a little more power even would be good, but I am not going to wait until 2001-2012 for it, and I am not buying foreign. So if GM puts there 5.3 V8 in the colorado as planned, with a new interior and face by 09, I would consider one of those as well....
The next year or two for me and I will be ready....
