The new Dakota is ugly looking, and the V8 doesn't have nearly as much power when compared to their old 360. Jen's parents have had both... If all you need it for is towing, I have towed a 4500lb steel horse trailer with 2 1,200+ lb horses in the new Dakota, and it did alright... nothing like the old 360 though.

Why would GM put the 5.3 in the Colorado? Wont that steal a lot of sales from their fullsize line?

Because sales are sluggish and a V8 with a make over would boost sales. I don't think it would take away from people buying full size trucks. I do however think it would increase midsize sales. Possibly taking some sales away from the dakota.

EDIT: I also agree with everyone, the dakota is ugly outside, but the interior is ok and the towing capacity is nice...

Ahhh.... I see...

I had one as a rental when my truck was in for warranty work years ago. I liked it, and the power was great, but I wish it was a stick (like my truck) that would have been allot more fun....

Back to the topic at hand, I heard they are going to retire the color sonic blue from all rangers in 2010 after seeing Zach Beard's Ranger.

Ford just needs to follow GM's plan. If the 5.3 is coming in the colorado that is huge. They already offered it in the trailblazer. But think of the sales when you get 20+ MPG and 300 Crank horsepower V8. Think about a Colorado ss with a LS2 like a TBSS. I'd buy it if they deuglified the front clip. Now imagine a ranger with a V8 that is simple to work on that has 300 HP+ and gets 20+ MPG without looking like an avalanched crapped it out. That would sell and sell big. It's [art of the reason GM is doing good right now and ford is fighting. They have no excitement, and they get crappy mileage. Those two things might have kept you afloat in the 80's but consumers demand more now.

^^^ I agree, 300hp V8 in the Colorado + 20mpg = F*ckin sweet!!!! I mentioned earlier that 2009 should have a redesigned front end to look more like the silverado. Works for me!

Maurice, I don't think they will put IRS on the ranger, there isn't a truck out there with it, and I don't think there will be...
The ranger has been a low cost truck, I think an IRS would raise the price to much.

The honda ridgeline is IRS.

Ford Needs to look at the Taco. Coil over IFS is the way to go if they wont give us a solid front axle. Give us 4 doors with a big enough bed to haul the biggest ATV on the market, and a diesel. Ford has a few diesels in the works. They have the 4.4L (I think) which is set to go in the F150 and Expideitions. They also have something they only put in the LCF box trucks. Please Ford put any diesel in it.

I'll admit to not following this thread to closely, but time and time again, I see folks wanting a diesel version Ranger. Why? What benefit do you think you'll have? Diesels are noisy as hell, harder to find fuel for and require a different mentality in the colder climates.

So, please educate me and tell me what's the big diesel craze?

^^^^ They run forever, make awesome power very easily, get better gas mileage than a gas motor, and just plain sound cool...

If you look for dependability, a diesel is hands down the way to go. A buddy of mine has a 7.3 power stroke with 490,000 miles on it, and it still runs like a top.

TORQUE !

Diesel make insane torque. I think the liberty V6 diesel had like 200 HP and 376 ft lbs. More torque then even the Hemi.

I have no problem finding feul for my diesel Excursion, lately its been cheaper then regular gas.

Better MPG. I get 17 MPG in the Excursion and the gas version gets 8-9 on a good day down hill.

I don't see any reason why a V6 or I4 diesel ranger can't get 35 MPG and still tow 6,000 lbs of trailer. Its win win win.

I plan on making my own home made Bio-diesel fuel in a couple years(after I move) I know guys are making their own fuel for less then $1.00 a gallon.

I like the diesel noise.

Diesel fumes make me horny.

Nope, the liberty diesel was 160 hp and 295 TQ. It is a four cylinder. The diesel you are referring to is the 3.0 V6 diesel in the grand cherokee. Its 215hp and 376 TQ.

You're right Gas engines are more reliable, get bettermileage, and have more torque and horsepower, thats why all over the road semi trucks are gas.... Oh wait....NVM.
