I parked my truck slightly downhill last night (in my driveway so I wouldn't have as much to shovel this morning) so I engaged the eBrake.

This morning, my driver side rear wheel refuses to move unless I put the truck in 4Hi or 4Lo or reverse. Going forward, the brakes seem to squeal and the truck can barely move unless I stomp on the gas. Going in reverse, It doesn't seem to have any problems.

This seems like the eBrake, right?

I've searched on the forum and some people have had luck by putting their truck in reverse, getting to a decent speed and then slamming on the brakes until they hear a loud bang. I tried this, but it didn't work. I think it's because there's still snow on the ground and the tire can't get enough traction to dislodge the brake mechanism.

It's near freezing temps outside and I don't have a garage to do any work/investigating. Any other suggestions that I can try? Otherwise, I'll have to pray that the shop up the street is open tomorrow so I can take it there. I return to work on Wednesday, so there's only one possible day for repairs.

 

Try a hair dryer on max heat setting! If you dont have a hair dryer use a heater torch whatever just warm up the drum and you should be fine.

I thought about that, but will that ruin anything on the inside? Is there a specific area on the drum is SHOULD NOT heat up? I doubt it, but I wanna verify before I f*k it all up. lol

I was out of propane/butane/whateverthestuffiscalled to torch it, so the hair dryer came out.

For almost an hour, it's been pointed at one point on the drum (1" away from the surface), but because of how cold it is, the drum is still freezing cold to the touch.

FML. lol

 

Try giving it a couple of whacks with a hammer too.

It could be stuck because of the cold, thats a pretty real possibility.

 

I'm going to try that tomorrow morning. If I can't get it free by noon time, I'll be forced to take it to a shop so I can go back to work on Wednesday (not that I WANT to go back. lol).

 

mine does it to i just go in reverse a little and it frees. mine is super bad tho if i go forward without going in reverse first its a loud pretty hard bang when they unfreeze

 

I never use my ebrake if it is raining and has the potential to freeze. Don't feel like dealing with ice in the drum

I've used it once the whole time owning this truck, When i parked on the backside of Test Hill on SL.

 

I rarely use my ebrake as well... only if I'm parked on a hill.



I didn't want to deal with the freezing temps AND trying to fix this issue, so I brought it to my mechanic. When he put it in the air and took the drum apart, he found that the cable was rusted and wouldn't release.

Meanwhile, I'm sitting here at home all nice and comfy. :-) lol
