Jpro, when did you say the computers got locked after?
March 09..so you can't buy a new truck and program it (smarty/xrt) you CAN use a fooler which would be the edge products or bully dog (those are both garbage)

See if you can find a USED 6.7 manual 4x4 (don't get an auto dodge...the trans is horrible), the 6.7's are selling CHEAP because of the obvious reasons. But an 08 or EARLY 09 make sure you don't get a march 4th or later 09.

Just sell the rang like I did, I got 4g trade in plus some incentives, sell yours and buy a used one. I surprisingly got my truck at carmax for 29.6 which is great...26k miles!

You can get em even cheaper than i did...

BTW only package that has bucket seats (true buckets with a center console) is Laramie...the SLT doesn't have the option. and it doesn't have leather as an option either.

I got the 40/20/40 with fold up center console and storage under seat

ok heres a plan...

sell it to him. go buy an old pos truck that barely runs for like 500 bucks and trade it in using the cash for clunkers deal. then spend the rest on a tube chassy and build a buggy

I'm throwing around a 99-03 7.3 and Cant decide if i want a 98-02 5.9 or a 03 4 door. Acutally 00-02, earliest you can get a 6 speed is 00 according to KBB.

CTD is faster, sounds more badass, better fuel mileage.
PSD is just friggin reliable..
both are pretty even on price. 99s are around 10k, 00s are around 11k.. Dodges jump from 12 to 16 grand KBB value between 02 and 03 :(

I know not to get ANY dodge with an auto, they're all junk. ha. i want a 6 speed.

Where did you get 56k price tag on a new dodge? Laramie? the 2500 i built came to 41,675? I need to sit down and see what i can afford, probably not looking at more than like 14k

Thats the laramie 4x4 mega sitting on the lot I was looking at when I was contemplating buying new. Ford is the same...chevy is 57k for their highest package. Prices are probably a lot more here...esp for 4x4 I live in a land filled with 2wd trucks.

do yourself a favor and sign up on cummins forums and DTR and look int he classifieds for a 98 or older 12 valve...you'll never have a problem! Cheap to mod and easy to make em smoke and turn out the HP. nice for a DD too!

Or an old 7.3, I've said it before, we use them in the ambulances, we have over 66 total (we have 80 plus units just that most the new ones are 6.4 or 6.0) and we run them all day, most trucks run 20hrs a day, and not one is under 150k miles and they run like a top. Some have a little tick or what not, but these trucks idle 10hrs a day avg multiply that times 365days times average truck is about 8yrs old!!! Thats a lot of hours!

No, but intake, exhaust, and fuel plate...your talking major DD status (and a lot of smoke)

Go find yourself an ext cab shortbed (I prefer longbed for ext cab) 12v and be done!

I mean you can spend the money and get a 24v, it's up to you. I would get a 04.5-07 5.9 if I could...other than that or a 6.7 i'd want a 12v.

I know of one of the guys we ride with he has a 96 12v gray ext cab 5spd nv5000, and he loves it, it's a FAST truck and he only did the fuel plate intake and exhaust I believe he has some more fuel mods too...but anyway, he bought it cheap and modded it evne cheaper.

Let me tell you, tuners are expensive...I'm sure you've looked already, but for my dpf delete, egr/cooler delete, exhaust, and programmer it is 1150...

yea but a fuel plate is kind of a set deal.

a tuner i can switch back and forth so im not always blowing black smoke and wasting fuel.

I'm getting a diesel cause it gets better mileage than a gasser but if im pouring fuel into the engine all the time wasting it theres no point.

You can go mild or wild, there IS an inbetween, you also have a fuel screw. And trust me they don't roll coal unless your on it hard...most let out a little puff in 4th or 5th gear, but not alll the time.

Its up to you, I've done my research and I'd love to have a 12v, real simple, but they do have their problems! Same with my truck, I have to deal with this DPF crap!!!

what problems do they have? I thought i read something on the cummins forum about some fuel or lifter? pump going out and can cause like $3,000 in repairs?

the only common problem with the 7.3 is the crank pos. sensor.

What kinda mileage can i expect from a 12v?

Tims F250 rolls coal at an idle at stop lights and starting off lightly from a stop light haha

Lift pump (basically the fuel pump for the injectors, is a huge problem, it is maiinly the vp44 and I'm not sure when/what years that was, I know it's not a prob for my truck.

Milage...dunno to be honest, I'd expect 15-17city (on 33's) and possibly low 20's hwy...like I said I'm not sure to be honest though. All the guys with 12v that I know are on 37s-40's and they get 13/15hwy

It is a heck of a lot better milage than gassers...

I'd go 7.3 if you can find it...don't do a THING to the motor besides intake/exhaust (no chips etc) and your trans willb e fine. We have several trucks that have had the trans replaced, but most have 150kplus origional miles on the trans and we are HARD on them...granted some do have major problems, but if you drive like a normal human being you shouldn't ahve too much of a prob.

The cummins is very complicated, but LOTS of power and very very reliable. Yes you have to do a few things to them, but they are an amazing motor...

I found 1 7.3 but it sold right when I called the guy...it just wasnt meant to be lol.

Get a manual cummins weather it is 12v or 24v and you will be happy, nothing lke shifting gears and blowin smoke

and i absolutely love the sound a Cummins makes when you get on it!

Looks like the vp44 was on the early 24v? I assume you can put something in place of the vp44 and just eliminate that problem all together right? i hope..ha

Ford manuals are good aren't they? 7.3s are for sale all over the place down here!

too bad i dont have the truck sold yet.
2004 Dodge ram 2500

real low miles and a good price. pretty nice minus the salvage title.

so ball park, what am i looking at to replace the fuel pump and lifter pump? I dont want to get stranded. Im reading, and reading.. just a little confused. the VP44 is the issue not the lifter correct?

and yea i know, its real tempting to buy a 6.0.. i know people w/o issues, but i also know more people with issues. its a junk motor.

hey buddy. so whats the deal? 2500 doesnt sound too bad. i understand the itch of the diesel! get a yellow 240d. ive always wanted one of those

so really whats the deal? you could always get something cheap and reliable, like a civic or some **** for real cheap and take some time building your truck up right. out of the hobby though.. i get it.

we need to go back out to the lake
