Tire choices

I'd like to know from those of you who drive a 4x4 Ranger how many chose to run AT tires.
My mechanic gave me a list of tires they can get for my 2002 4x4 ext cab 4.0 motor and all are AT. I get around just fine in my car with all season radials and just front drive. With fwd, why not rather run all-season and enjoy a smoother, quieter ride.?
I don't do any off roading and my mechanic cannot understand my thinking.
Could I get some opinions? I fully understand that every tire design is a compromise, that there is no such thing as a tire that does it all.

My ATs don't make any more noise than a standard street radial tire. I love them. Aggressive tread, great performance when I go off road, a very well mannered on the street in all conditions.

However, regardless of what your mechanic thinks, it's your truck and you know your needs. If you don't go off road and don't want ATs, don't get them.

What tires are you running?
He's suggesting Hankook Dynapro AT RF10
Reviews show them to be quieter than most ATs

Falken Wild Peak AT. If you see Falken Rocky Mountain ATs, they're the same tire. Never understood why they have 2 names for the same tire.

i ran firestone destination at's (the passenger version not the light truck version) for about 50k miles on my '97. they were great tires i must say. very quiet/smooth on the highway and great in snow.
my '02 had dunlop grand trek at20's on it when i bought it. they are not an all terrain tire despite the name. anyhow, stay away, they are crap... i'm looking to replace them already and they have half the tread left. i am also looking for an at tire and may go with the firestones again if i can find a good price.

Well, I still have a bit of a bad taste in my mouth because of Firestone. I very vividly recall the day when everyone showed up for work and the bosses came out and said, "By the way, fellas, starting today you are working for exactly half of what we paid you yesterday". No, I did not work for Firestone.
I suppose it's time to get over that. Perhaps that gave more workers a chance to reach pension age. Now just about all tires are made elsewhere.

Wisdom would shop for the best regardless.

That's quite a truck you have. I can match 2 things with yours- it's a Ranger and Bilsteins all the way around. Only had it a couple of months.
'02 XLT 4X4 Stepside SUP CAB 4.0 MOTOR.
I just put new 4600s on it and have wheel bearing hub assemblies on the way. Timken.
The truck is really clean for a 14 year old. 105,000 miles. Runs great. Suspension has been neglected.

Thanks for responding.

Since you don't go off the road, stick with all season tires for ride comfort and good handling.

Thanks. I haven't decided yet. Still struggling with wheel hubs. Can't seem to do anything right on them.
