interesting info on hella lights
kind of silly really, but i've noticed that some of the '500' models have "comet 500" stamped on the back of the housing and on the lower portion of the glass, it reads "made in germany," while the ones that do NOT have the "comet 500" stamped on the housing, instead have "made in mexico" stamped there instead.
both styles are identical.... cheap mexican labor??

No. Hella has factories (all German run) in many countries. The Rallye 500 is produced in Germany, Mexico, and Taiwan. The term "comet" is the European name for the "Rallye 500", which is the name it is sold under in the US market. There are a number of different versions sold in the US. For the most part, the driving lamps are all the same. They have a slightly different beam pattern depending on the reference number. But, they all use the same tooling, same materials, same glass, and same brakets. The only difference is the Hella facotry where the tooling resides and what the person assembling the light looks like.
