Hey guys, been noticing a faint sounded coming from what seems to be the front drivers side of my truck. Been going on for a few weeks.

The sound itself is hard to explain. Its faint, and probably would go un noticed to the average person. But after driving the truck without the issue, its definitely noticeable to me now.

Not really a clicking sound. Almost like a small clunk. And it has to do with something rotational. The faster I go, the faster the clunk is...slower I go the slower it is. Braking doesn't seem to effect it. Tires are in good shape. I've briefly jumped under there to see if there is anything noticeable right off the bat but nothing.

Also doesn't effect steering or anything. Truck doesn't pull and steers fine.

Also, once I get up to highway speeds 55-65 I don't notice it anymore. I'm not sure if thats because I just can't hear it due to the higher speeds of if it just isn't happening. I'm sure its just because I can't hear it but who knows.

Any one have similar issues? Any ideas of what it might be? Wheel bearing maybe?

did one of your wheel weights slide on the rim or fly off? wheel bearings tend to make a humming noise

 

Haven't noticed any weights out of place. Then again I didn't pay attention to where they were at originally.

I'm going to get my tires and wheels within the next week or two so maybe once they are re-balanced the noise will go away. Hopefully...

 

when a half shaft starts to go bad it can make a clunking sound does it get worse turning turning the wheel left or right?

 

I've had what James has described and it ended up being a snowmobile track ice stud stuck in the tread.
Didn't find it until I rotated the tire and inspected it all the way round.
