Anyone seen this Nightmare before?
Here's my story,
Originaly went to buy a used ranger from a local dealership saw this new ranger in the showroom, love at first sight.
4" super lift big Nito mud grapples on incubus crawlers wheels bought it.
About a week and a half goes by and the engine light comes on, cylinder 3 miss fire I'm told they say it's a dropped valve, they have to violate my brand new engine, tore the head off and replaced it, they got the new head but no bolts so had to wait for those to show up a couple of days later, can't use the original ones because there tightened to there sheer point.
Got it all back together still the same problem, they think it's now the lifter and tear her down again replaced the lifter back together , same problem.
Seems to run ok when it's cold but when it heats up it gets bad now they think the valve guide might be getting tight when it's hot so they file the guide still the same, I'm loosing it! They bring in one of the teches from ford he finds the pinched spark plug wire !!
Ok it's done, or is it ? No the saga continues ,I noticed some clanging coming from under the truck my boss and I get underneath to look around he finds there is no rubber bushing in the shock on the bottom hole the shock is banging around on the stud so back I go, ask them if the guy thats installing the lift for them is drunk or what, get it back and there's still some clanging noise get under the truck again and find the skid plate bolts are all striped, I could push and pull them out with my fingers, this is bull **** I can't freaken believe it. back to the dealer yet again the moron installing the lift must have left the impact wrench set for 100 foot pounds.
Not done yet, another week or so more clunking getting worse and worse and as most of you can likey guess the crappy sway bar end links are to blame this time.
They find a different type to replace the superlift ones with there a lot better but starting to make noise now.
Any way some time goes by and I notice some loud ticking comming from under the truck when I pull into the garage, left the truck running and slide underneath sounds like its comming from around the trany pan area take it to the dealer, they don't have a trany tech there so it's off to another dealer that has, it's first thought to be the traction control but then they found it to be the cat, that's weird I thought only 15000 km or so factory defect ? Nah as I later learned the un burnt fule from the miss fire was more than likely the cause, it cost me 300.00 + bucks because of the extra parts they have to remove, (the lift)
So around 28000 km guess what? another miss fire have to limp home from out of town in the shoulder and down back roads she's shuttering really bad if I go over 60 or so kph, I make it home and hook up the code reader it's a cylinder 4 miss fire! it's Sunday can't do anything until tomorrow, brows the forum for info I'm thinking valve spring, great!
Next day take it in, they call me about an hour later telling me the truck is ready to go IT'S ANOTHER WIRE ! didn't say if it was pinched or not top secret I guess, now I'm waiting for the cat on the drivers side to go.
About a week after that I was washing my truck and saw paint blisters comming from under the rear bumper plastic cap took it down and they repainted them that was nice.
Forgot to mention they got grease on my 400.00 neoprene seat covers and scratched the **** out of my Gibson tips when they did the cat, as well scratched the **** out of the plastic door sill, they love to step on the weather stripping and plastic sill you know friggin idiots.
And last but not least after all the work they did on the changing of the head and all, they didn't think to change the oil, mind boggling or what ! Changed it myself.
Thinking real hard about taking the loss and dumping my truck.
Any one have a nightmare they care to share?
Oh totally forgot two more visits one for a pinion seal leaking
Then another trip back months later for the front drive shaft seal.

Sorry to hear that, that's terrible. There's lots of stuff on ranger's I'd call weak, problematic or at least less then ideal, but these 4.0's other then terrible mileage and power have always seemed pretty tough and reliable to me. I can see why you fell in love, looked at your pictures that ranger is beautiful! I love my ranger but after everything you've been through with it I'd probably hate it. Hope it works out.

They have a shop down the road that dose there accessories, that's who they blamed for the pinched wire on #3 don't see how that could happen.
I don't know if I mentioned this but they did replace the original superlift swaybar link ends (you know the ones with the ball joint ) with procomp end links, there starting to rattle now, lasted about 10000 or so.
Stopped by a weak ago to have the exhaust manafold leak fixed and to get new bushings in the end links and was told I would get a call back when he was done installing a turbo on somthing, still waiting.
I haven't had to put out any coin except the 300 + when they changed the cat,
Least I know what to expect when the other side goes.
Do you know what kind of damage happens to an engine when ran on 5 sparks ?
Im guessing it gets worse the farther you go.
Glazed walls, valve damage stuff like that just wondering.

Good things you're not paying for the repairs. As far as I know it just gums up the spark plugs? I could easily be wrong though.

Damn man that's brutal. I have had very few problems with mine. I went thought a slave cylinder and battery with the first 5,000km. But other wise she has been running like a Swiss watch. The superlift sway bar links suck big time! I broke mine within the first day lol. I just made a home made set, been working great to. Hope you get her fix though, looks like a sweet rig!!
I see your from edmonton, we're abouts? Beside being in the stealership.

I actually bought a pair from interior off road that were from superlift, totally differant from the original ball joint style, they had about a 12" bolt with a thick sleeve flat on both ends that slid over the bolt, and the four rubber bushings, similar to a couple I've seen here, but I took them back I didn't like the way the swaybar hung so close to the top of the tie rod, the procomp ones are 14" and the swaybar sits level so I know what I need for length anyway.
