My Fun expensive weekend at the dunes :)
Well last minute, me and the "crew" headed up to the dunes Sunday, me knowing damn well my truck wasn't up to par for more then very light ropping, me being the crazy **** I am thought, what the hell, I need to finish stuff on this truck may as well go ***** out!
On the way to the dunes, found out my video camera took a dump...
Then we weren’t even out there 20 min and sure enough my ghetto fixed power steering line gave way, so I just ran it dry with out power steering since I ran out, and the last fill, I guess I forgot to put the cap on, so sand + hydraulics = needing a new pump
Then showing some of my friend's who are newbies to the dunes how its done, I decide to never let off the gas at the top of "test hill" and had clamed from the shocked bystanders of me getting about 8 foot in the air, while in the air I am remembering my ball joints are damn near gone, well I landed with quite the pound, ball joints in tack surprisingly, but broke a shock mount and sway bar link
So we proceed after some pats on the back from the jeep and quad folks, we proceed on just exploring for an hour or so... Then knowing damn well I need to go easy because I really need to get to Jury Duty on Monday, all that quickly left my mind and I thought, I am going to go for broke on my POS truck, I hit the other hill just as hard, landed about the same, thinking "HELL YEAH NOTHING BROKE!" I hit a SMALL dip in the sand and BAM!!! My pass side tire is into the fender. Then I learned just how far you need to go to get a ball joint on a Sunday around 5PM, then when I get there, remembering I left ALL our tools back in my truck locked up about 45 min away. So I start grabbing what ever I need off the rack at AutoZone and busting it open, then I realized I now have a $120 bill for a ball joint and tools to get the damn ball joint into the arm.
Well we limped my truck home, really sucks on the highway, with just rear shocks, no sway bar or power steering, oh well.
I will have some pics up soon, my cameras all are crap, so my friend took some shotty ones
:Worthless
That’s my story, it was fun though, great way to leave the summer behind, now that its getting colder and winter will be here VERY soon

so you had a bad trip, not as bad as this one I had
880 to get towed home.
see the people in the background on pic number 3? well thats where I launched from laned and broke instantly, didn't roll or anything just laned and dug into the sand. plus its just just a triangle type dune, its a table top so there is a flat spot at the top you can drive across... I guess i went 50-60 feet and was at least 10' in the air at my highest point

carnage.
it sucks.
we all learn lessons one way or the other... (i have learned many that i wouldnt even post about, lol)
but we are all hard-headed, and obsessed with truck, so our lesson is "what needs to be upgraded!"...
glad you are having a good attitude about it all.
looking forward to seeing the truck all fixed up.

if you've ever head or "still diry" or "bottomed out" they are the guys who will be filming. I do have a video of my truck in action, not jumping, but mobbing I dont have a host for it though.
the vid is 8.85MB in wmv format.
