Busted knuckles over a stupid spring!

Does anyone have any advice for getting the timing belt tensioner spring back on and getting both ends of the spring behind the stop pins without breaking your wrist and busting your knuckles trying? I can get the spring tensioned and in the right place with my two hands, but can't get the spring to stay on the pin without it slipping off the second I release tension!!! My left index knuckle is bruised and swollen today from about 10 repeated hits on the alternator pully after the pliars slipped off.

The spring looks like this:

If only it were that easy.....there is absolutely nothing to pry against because of the torsion spring! I'm going to head to Oreilly's to see if they have any special spring torsioners or something...

maybe you should wrap something soft around the alternator pulley.
