Buying a 99 Ranger today, Help Please
I have been looking for a farm truck to use around theproperty and to run to the hardware store in. I have my daily driver truck sothis one would just be to take in the woods, feed cows, etc.
My neighbor put a 1999 ford ranger 4X2 up for sale with 220Kmiles on it. He wants $2,000 but said he would let it go for $1500. His son gota DUI and he has already canceled tag and insurance. Needs gone now. I had a trailerworth around $1400 he said he would trade me for straight up. Truck runs fine,new battery, tires, radiator and clutch.
My question is what should I look for problem wise in atruck like this with this many miles? would it be worth paying the dealer $60 to look at it?

You don't mention engine size or if it is a manual or automatic.
Price seems good, but I would still pay to get temporary tags and the $60 inspection.
Even if you are going to get it it will give you a "heads up" on future issues.
1999 4x2 Rangers didn't have any special issues, all pickups have issues with rear leaf spring hangers rusting out, lol.
The 2.5l 4cyl, 3.0l, and 4.0l V6 engines were all very reliable.
Manual M5OD-R1 trans was very good
The 4R44E automatic was OK, if maintained.
I happen to like high miles, it means vehicle wasn't sitting in a shop being repaired all the time or owner wasn't afraid to drive because of past repair bills, lol.
But 220k is up there, so you can expect some maintenance expenses, which is why you want the inspection, all those "lifetime lubed" parts do actually have a shorter "lifetime" than we do, so how they get away with using the word lifetime is beyond me, and since you can't lube them you have to replace them.
Although some of these can be drilled and fitted with zerk fitting
Obviously a 2 wheel drive pickup is useless without a load in the back on wet ground, so will this do what you want?
If so pull the trigger, after inspection
