Exhaust Question

does anyone have a single exhaust out the rear?? i see dual's out the rear all over the place.. but does anyone have a single out the rear?

i have a single exiting in the stock location.. but wanted to cut off the 90 degree turn and add a straight, longer exhaust tip to hopefully get a better sound. i don't have the money right now for duals, so getting another catback is out of the question.

as it sits right now... i have a dynomax catback system single pipe exiting in the stock location.. i took of the dynomax muffler that came with the kit and put on a flow master 40 series on there... it was an improvement on sound... but now im looking to add a little more sound by adding a longer exhaust tip and having it go straight out the rear.

anyone got any ideas if you think a single out the rear won't look right?? my tip on there now is only like 6 inches long.... i wanted to go a bit longer

Do you have a rear hitch? I don't know how good it would look either way though. It'd prolly look good if you were lowered. But I'd just leave it where it's at.

yeah i have a rear hitch... and that's basically what i'm stuck at... will it look good or not.

im only thinking about it now becuase i just saw a roll pan on ebay with a single cut out for one tailpipe... so i figured i'd ask if anyone has a single out the rear already

ive seen single exhaust exiting out the back on a ranger before. theres actually a couple people in my area with that. it looks alright, but honestly it looks like something is missing. it looks a little empty, but anything is better than stock.i dont know if it would the sound "better," but it would aim it straight to the back and it may actually sound quieter from the cab, and maybe a little louder to the people behind you

A nice tip out the stock location would be nice. I agree one tip would look a lil interesting.

if what you're saying about the sound is correct, then i'd be even happier, lol. i'd love to cut down on some of the noise inside the cab, but wouldn't mind having a better sound outside. and i understand what you're saying about "it looks like something is missing"

and Aaron, i'll have to actually get out the tape measure and see how much longer of a tip i'd be able to fit in the stock location.... there's basically a 6 or 8 inch tip on there, then immediately a 90 degree turn.... so i don't know that i can fit anything longer on there without it sticking out past the truck's side.

so is it safe for me to assumme that it hasn't hurt performance for you then?

also, you've mentioned you don't care about sound, but, would you be able to say if it sounds good or not.. i know your opinion on good may be my "ok" or "great" ...but im still looking to hear something if anything at all about it's sound

its a little louder than stock. sounds decent opened up and little louder than stock at idle. but its nothing like a flowmaster with duals or flowmaster dumped, or magnaflow duals. which ive had before..

now i have a borla SI/SO 2.25" exhaust dumped. i could prolly take a vid and post it tomorrow.

here a pic

hmm... well, since i have a flowmast 40 si/so... would you recommend dumping it at the bumper, or right after the muffler? which would sound louder do you think (if you know).

^^ LMAO you dont even need to have the kink in the pipe...

If you had a molded bumper it would look good like on cars, but i agree that it will look like somethigns missing or its just off ballance...

lose the hitch and get a dual tip and run it out under the plate...

it will be louder dumped right after the muffler. but the problem is it will cause rust and corrosion because of all the moisture. that is why i ran it the rest of the way back to the bumper.

There was a member here who was posting for like the first time on a truck he was going to buy. It was a white truck I believe and it had exaust like you are talking about. Personally I think it looks a miss because I am so use to seeing the Dual exhaust on trucks. Personally if you dont want dual I would try angleing it out after the rear tire.

i'd do dual in a heart beat if i had the money for the new muffler and piping.. but i don't.. so i figured a better tip would be the cheaper way to go for now.

and i need my hitch, so it isn't going anywhere (plus i think Bob said the dual kit from the thunderbolts fit around his hitch)

I cut the exhaust pipe off right at the curve so that the pipe was completely straight underneath, then welded on a peice of pipe and tip on it so it's stright out the back. it looks pretty good, but would look better if it was duals
