I would talk him down a good bit. I don't like the damage at all.

Bit high for the damage and mileage. I probably wouldn't pay more than $1200 for that.

Good to know. The guy does mention that it is very very clean inside but I won't know until I take a look myself.

Talk him to 1200 or 1300 max. On the same point you dont really know how its been driven and from the body its been "ridden hard" so beware of the miles

WAY too much!
I sold a fully loaded 97 Explorer 4x4 4.0L with 110k miles or so for that much a little over a year ago. I wouldn't get much over $1000.

For reference, here is the 97 Explorer I sold, 112k miles, took MONTHS to sell it for $3000 in great condition. Not a 16 y/o POS with 175k miles.

Ran great, everything worked. 4x4, leather, power everything, moonroof, overhead console, 6 cd changer with factory sub, sport trac 16" wheels, etc etc.
You should call the guy just to tell him to shove it.

(in retrospect I kind of wish I kept the Explorer too, lol)

I sold my 2002 B4000 4x4 ext cab with 260 000 miles for $3000.

I'd pay in the 1200-1500 range for that truck. The body damage and the age drags the price down.

sorry to thread jack, but those wheels look awesome on the explorer! ive always wondered what the newer ranger/explorer wheels would look like on an explorer like that!

Yeah, I put them on there because she got tired of the hum from the 31" mud terrains that were on it. When I put the 33's on the sport trac I swapped those wheels to her Explorer, they did look pretty good.

And FYI, I think I actually listed the Explorer for 2500 at one point with no bites. I sold it to someone a family member knew for 3000.

CrazyMikey, from what I have seen the age has a lot more effect on price than mileage. I sold my 98 ranger a couple years ago for over $5k with 145k miles, but it was extremely clean in great condition. Just my $.02

I'm meeting the guy today to see if he would be interested in trading for my 1999 Mitsubishi Galant. If he goes for it, I will do it as they are both worth about the same on KBB, but if he wants more cash I will have to pass. Cross your fingers, I'm in desperate need of another daily driven Ranger. The last daily driven Ranger I had to give up was a heart breaker. ='(

Not worth it. Rule of thumb: take the clean value, get an estimate for that damage, and take 75% of the estimate off the value of the truck right off the top.

Edmunds is putting that truck at $800 private party and $1800 dealer. If it really is immaculate on the interior and has no other issues I'd offer him private party and go NO MORE than dealer retail minus cost of repair. Come armed with this: Edmunds used Ford Ranger car appraisal. Used Ford car pricing.

WOW! This guy must have been smoking crack! He wanted my car plus $1800 on top of it. LOL

Needless to say I passed. I actually think I dodged a bullet there. The truck had the classic Ford porno red interior.
