CB wiring questions

A nice place to get power if you want it on all the time is the "power point" connector to the right of the radio. For switched power, there's enough juice going to the radio to tap a wire there.

Edit: Wire to tap is yellow/black behind the radio for switched power.

What panels on the dash do I have to remove to get to these wires? How should I "tap" into the wire?

Use "tap splices" available in many places, including Walmart, RadioShack, etc. They penetrate the insulation when closed, joining your wire to the exisiting wire without cutting the harness in the truck.

Take off the center panel (where the radio is). Two small bolts or screws above the heater controls, then it pulls straight out (it snaps in). Both places are available through there.

another question? where should I ground the CB?

You can tap the ground for the powerpoint connector, or the black ground wire on the radio harness, or the ground on the cigarette lighter plug -- again a black wire.

I got the CB and antenna installed last night. It was too dark to take pics when I was done, so I'll try to post some today after work.

I always thought the best part of having a CB antenna was driving through the parking garage....

"ting, ting, ting, ting, ting" LOL I get a hoot out of it...but it only works well with a stainless whip. I can see the point of lowering a fiberglass antenna.

I was just going to wire mine to the 12V accessory outlet.
