It seems random to me. Why wouldn't all supercabs have them? Or all 4x4's?

It sounds like everyone that has one is a Extended or Supercab. But it also sounds like only like 01+ or 02+ have them.

Anyone with a pre-02 Extended or Supercab with an aluminum driveshaft?

Anyone with a standard cab with a aluminum driveshaft any year?

Hummm. That would be weird if it was 98+ Extended and Supercabs that have them. Seems like a weird year to start.

The only problem with the aluminum ones is they are susceptible to gettting bent damaged more easily causing an unbalanced driveshaft. I would want a steel one if I off-roaded.

My 2001 XLT four door with the off road package had an aluminum shaft. My 2004 Level II did not. Also another guy I worked with in 2001 bought an identical ranger to mine, same color and options. His ranger didn't have an aluminum shaft. I have never heard a good reasoning why one ranger has one and the next one does not.

^^Crazy John... My '01 XLT 4x4 xcab 4.0 manual 4x4 non-off road model has a steel shaft. I know most 03+ xcab 4x4's have an alum rear shaft. I don't recall ever not seeing one on those but I'm not gonna say all of 'em do because look at Hazzard's old '04. lol. I know I've seen 2wd alum shafts but they were all xcabs and I don't recall ever seeing any reg cab/short box with alum...always steel. I tried for a few months to find a 2wd reg/short alum for my brother but always came up empty handed and unfound.

I'm unsure if anyone has actually gotten to the bottom of it in regards to what years, models, drivetrains got alum shafts and what didn't.
