New Member but it's a Mazda......... Cruise Control question

Hello,
I am a new member. I have just purchased a 2010 Mazda B4000 4x4 (super?) cab. It's a 5speed manual.

I am told this is actuallity a Ford Ranger? That is why I came to this 'Forum'. I had visited a Mazda forum but was told that for my vehicle I would probably find more help and info here at this site?

It is a very nice truck and rides quite well. I am contemplating taking 'small' trips in it and so would like to install a cruise control device in it. Is there a way of telling if I have that potential option available on this vehicle? or do I need to go the route of buying something that is a complete 'package' in itself? Do any of you have experience in this and would you recommend a brand?

Thanks

yes you have a ford ranger...and 2009 IIRC was the last year for the B-series...and your truck may be prewired for cruise control or not..if it is then its a pretty straight forward install

Yes its ranger just different badging and different body panels but underneath they are the same. Id look by the passenger side fender for a large pigtail. Thats where the control module mounts also there will be pigtails behind the driver airbag for the control pods. If those re there then check for the fuse blanks in the fuse panel if you can see the metal pins down in there and not just blank plastic and you have the pigtails then most likely it is pre-wired. If not you will have to get creative it can be done and i think someone did a writeup on it at some point. Being a 4x4 and 4.0 your odds of being prewired is much higher as this was a higher end package but there are a few that weren't. If you have all the wiring its just a matter of sourcing the parts and hooking it up.

If you have buttons on your steering wheel you have it. If not, you don't. After 2007 I believe they started putting smart junction boxes in these trucks which makes it a little hard to add some aftermarket things. The SJB or smart junction boxes are located in the passenger side foot area behind a panel.

I agree that if you have a 4.0L and 4wd it's a good bet that you have cruise. More so if you have power options like locks and windows.

Yes ^^^^

Buttons on the steering wheel

If you don't have them then adding an after market(3rd party) cruise control would be best, otherwise you will have to change steering wheel, along with adding the cruise control parts, and that will be expensive.
Just read reviews on the different "add-on" cruise controls to find one that fits your needs.
