where is the best place to get one and where's the best place to mount? I saw wannabe's pics of his setup... pretty nice.

 

hmmm.....am i the said "wannabe"? I'm running semi-truck stuff. Grover 1601's and a Grover 30" long trumpet. Im having compressor issues.

But TrePaul86 has some good pics posted in his threads, and even youtube sound clips.


If you piece it together with a good viair compressor, a good setup would run about $300 or so. We've got a local freightliner surplus yard we hit up from time to time to score some horns. I got two horns for $10 ea last time i was there.

 

so their just pieced together, they don't come in kits? I didn't think about just ripping em' off a semi... where can you get the compressors for them, and do you have to get a tank with it or is that part of the compressor?

 

Some horn sets are kits, but......they all tend to have crappy compressors from what i've seen. Yes...you can get kits(hornblasters.com), but we chose to piece together. I'll be getting a Viair 380 soon to fix all my cheapo compressor issues. Some kits are plastic horns, imo stupid...advertised as "train horns". I call mine truck horns. lol.

It's best to get a tank to store all that compressed air. I've got a 125psi 5gal tank. Trevor is running my old 150psi 3gal tanks(6gal total).

Bottom line...kits are out there. but you'll likely be upgrading stuff due to cheap crap.

 

I pieced mine together. I bought and burned up a Harbor Freight compressor due to me using sound as my "pressure switch" I was too cheap to get a proper pressure switch and relay and it cost me that $50. So i upgraded to a Viair 380 with a 165-200 pressure switch(http://myworld.ebay.com/arnott_air_suspension). I got my horns from Siege Engineering (http://myworld.ebay.com/siegeengineering). They have rocked and helped me so much choosing my stuff. Very good customer service and excellent products for reasonable price. I got the Kong horns and was going to mount them where my spare tire was under my Sonoma when I had it (pre Feb 2007) and then revised my ides when I got my ranger. I took the horns off of the base they came on and then ran 3/8" line to each horn from a 3-way after the solenoid. Each of my trumpets occupies a corner of the truck, under the bed. I did not put a trumpet in the corner with the gas filler tube, but instead used the other 3. I had some scrap 2" square tubing that street signs come on and used those for scrap mounting paces. Two trumpets went behind each tail light with plenty of room to work and the longest trumpet was mounted ot the bottom of the stake pocket on the front, passenger's side. This was before horns got so popular and becoming more accepted. I was fearful of getting pulled over if caught using them and this way you cannot see the horns unless you get under the truck and look up.

 

Check my sig. Yes my horns are plastic but they are used on some trains and some semis, they are just rebadged with the hornblasters name on them. The guy with the truck that has the ship horns and all that other crazy stuff did a test on them and they were the same Db as Nathan P3's.
