Quick question before draining transmission

I am about to change the tranny fluid on my 2000 Ranger 2.5L 5 speed. The little 1/2" bolt is there to determine the fluid level, correct? After I drain the fluid, I loosen the 1/2" bolt a little, fill with new fluid, then wait for a little bit of fluid to pour out the 1/2" hole, then tighten it back up, correct?

Just want to make sure. Thanks.

You fill it in the same hole you check it with. I know on most things it says Drain or Fill right next to the plug.

On my 03, the bottom bolt is to drain, and the top is to fill (you fill it to the hole, just like a differential).

The bolt is bigger than 1/2" you may be looking at the wrong one. There are 2 really big ones, fill and drain.

both the fill and drain hole should have 15/16 heads on them
