dirtbike or quad

I'd like to get one but not too sure which route to go.. I have friends with quads and others with bikes. I plan on just doing trails. (2wd quads btw)

I'm exactly 50/50 with my decision here so does anyone have advice or opinions that could help me make up my mind?

Not to thread jack, but do they make quads that can switch from 2wd to 4wd? Like trucks do? or is it all or nothing? I've only ever rode quads, I'd go for that, depends on what you like best I guess. Which would be most useful for you? What can you do more things with... weigh the pros and cons of each.

Bike all the way. Cheaper to buy, can go more places (both because they are more capable and are legally allowed on more trails, plus you can plate it if you want), plus they are way more fun (personal opinion). With a quad you will never get to experience the pure bliss that is single track.

Since you have friends with both bikes and quads get a bike so you can ride with both. bikes are allowed EVERYWHERE quads are, but not the other way around.

Side note: 1,000th post WOOT WOOT!

Yep they're selectable. The early ones I believe were full time 4wd. Unfortunately they're following the automobile manufactures and going with electric 4wd engagement as they get newer. My 04 Arctic cat has electronic engagement and my friends AC that is just a year or two older is a manual engagement on the 4wd. I want to swap mine to manual engagement. To bad I can't have twin sticks on it like I do my Ranger.

The only way I would consider a quad would be a big 4x4 for hauling crap around on trails. A big is faster, more maneuverable, generally has better suspension for the money. Any old fatty can ride a quad around.

i think a quad would be more fun if you're lazy, you can take it into mud holes, it's like a mini truck... where as dirt bikes, you gotta keep moving, if you get bogged down in mud, you're going to be pushing it... (literally)

depends on your climate really (imo) dirtbikes are fun if you like to rip through trails rally style, and quads are fun if you like to 4x4

Quad, if you getting one for around the lower mainland, definatly get a 4x4 quad. Your going to hate yourself with 2wd. The rear axle just hangs way too low.

I have a grizzly 700, and I'll never go back
