E-Brake troubles

I have a 96 Ranger. I bought it in January and the e-brake has never worked properly. Most of the time it does not have any tension when I push it in. But sometimes it gets tension towards the last little bit of it. I know Rangers have a self adjusting E brake system. But im sure it would have self adjusted in 5 months.
If anyone knows anything about this please help.

look under driver side along bottom and look for an adjustment screw assembly ...you'll need two pair of pliers and adjust slowly...do NOT over adjust....good luck.
