The stock clusters & hvac panels are either blue or green, illuminated by regular clear bulbs from behind.
You can mod the overlays be lightly & carefully wet sanding the color filtering off the back side once you have the needles removed. Then you can use pretty much any color led you'd like for the cluster.
If you have clear/white needles, they'll light up the same color as the rest of the cluster but if you have red needles they generally look dim & don't light up very well with colored led's.
You can paint the overlays with a translucent paint like duplicolor metalcast spray paint & use white led's.. this method will allow you to fine tune the color to exactly what you want depending on how many coats you apply.
In my experience, the "colored" light bulbs will only last a short time before the coloring painted on will flake off & you'll be back to mostly clear bulbs.
With colored led's, the color should last for the life of the led's... which should be substantially longer than the old bulbs, not to mention the led's are usually brighter depending on the type of led used (hopefully buggman led's )
