Icon5 Did I pay too much ??

Just purchased a 1987 Ford Ranger XLT with a 2.9 EFI. Paid 2325.00. In good condition. Thought it would be a good truck for my son in college. Anything I should be aware of with that engine?

Thanks in advance.

It looks pretty good. I will send pics when I pick it up on Wed. Had a topper for years so the back end is like new.

Who knows, I paid 1900 for an 88 with 85K miles ten years ago. I have the bug to buy another one and in good enough shape to at least fix up is between 1800-3000 asking price. Kind of weird. You can buy a good running Bondo/rust sculpture to beat around for aroung the 1000 mark.

That is way too high. You should have paid around $1,000-$1,500. I got my BII which is in excellent shape and only has 68,000 miles on it for $350.

Got to play devils advocate, but this might be a geographic oddity. You can't touch a running truck that isn't rotted to dust for that here. $ I have been looking for a while to buy another one, mostly for nostalgic sake. Well you can find Decent Bronco II's for that cheap, you certainly cannot find rangers anywhere near a condition that makes them worth while to fix for less than $2K If I could I'd already have one.

tell him to off road it thats a strong engine. the 4.0 is better but the 2.9 is actually better than the 3.slow.

I don't know that you overpaid that badly. Around here, extended cabs in good condition are going for around 2k. The mileage sounds low, and if it is in good shape, it might be an ok price. I would say you overpaid $200-300. Not bad tho.

I don't see it as being over priced. Worse case it is worth $500-800 in a few years if it gets banged up but still runs. Thats $1200 depreciation compared to $5,000 - $10,000 for a new truck.

You did fine with that buy. It looks to be in great condition in and out. As long as it runs well you made out just fine on the deal.

if hes posting on here, THAT truck wont stay looking like that for long... Soon will be tires, then lifts, engine mods, all sorts of crap.
