I have BFG AT Tires on my Ranger, I see they are Q rated tires
I am going to Las Vegas for a week for work
Do you think the roads and weather are too hot for those tires?
I have like a 10 hour drive to get there and been watching the weather lately, it's been 104+ on a bad day

I use 5w20 oil in it, should I move up to like 1030 or 1040 oil for the same reasons as listed above?

I'm not sure about the tires.. Slightly over inflating them will keep sidewall flex down and tire temp down as a result.

On the oil I use 5w-30 until the motor starts making constant ticking noises. (Usually up around 50-70k miles) Higher milage and/or wear and I'll switch over to a 10w-30 And if a motor is still clanging on 10w-30 I'll go to stright 30weight.

Stay away from the 40 weights. That is pretty thick stuff and the clearances on most engines produced over the last 20 years really is not made for it. Most suseptable are OHC engines. (the lifters over pump and can hold the valves open)

For a trip like your going on, I'd flush the radiator out. Both external and internal. Refill, check the tires and over inflate by about 3-5 psi. Just check the rest of the fluids and have fun.

tires will be fine IF they are inflated to the pressure on the sidewalls.....which i would say since it is a BFG A/T is 35 psi.....BFG A/T tires are sold all over the country/world, i am sure there are people in Las Vegas who have BFG A/T's...

everything else that Rich said is correct, make sure you have a fresh oil change and flush the radiator out.....

I am here in Vegas now, made it with no problem except for the long drive from SF Bay Area

Wanted to take a day trip to Laughlin and see what all the hype is about this new place but it's been 113+, too hot for me

 

Come to Houston...its 108+ without the added heat index...and we have humidity! Yay! (Note the sarcasm)

 

run the tires at what you normally run them at. you dont have to worry about the heat getting to them. bfg manufactures their tires for a little extra heat and those sidewalls are tough. you should be more concerned about them wearing evenly and not overheating...

luckily those nice air conditioned casinos across the street to cool off

makes me appreciate the cool weather and a little fog from the Golden Gate Bridge
