Do shocks add lift?

I have been looking for new shocks to put on this summer and I have ran across quite a few that say 2-4 inches of lift. So do they really lift the truck or what?

ehh not really... no...well, not the ones I'm sure you're looking at anyway. Say you lifted your truck 2-4 inches by some means (other than a body lift), you would need longer shocks because your stock ones are no longer long enough to handle being at full droop (w/o breaking internally). Make sense?

No shocks DO NOT add lift to your truck. There are bigger shocks, but they will only fit lifted trucks. The only way a new set of shocks would lift your truck is if your stockers are so beyond blown that they are fully compressed 24/7.. then putting new ones on will raise it like an inch maybe

Some shocks can lift a vehicle slightly. Most shocks pressurized with high pressure nitrogen can lift a vehicle up to 1/2". Standard shocks without gas pressure or low pressure will not lift a vehicle.

A shock can lift you the same way a torsion bar tweek can -- by extending the suspension more -- it's not a true lift though, and not a desirable way to go about it.

Neither are torsion bar tweeks actually -- but some of us in the 2WD community use them anyway.

The only type of shock that'll "lift" your truck in and of itself would be an air shock... like http://www.kingshocks.com/airshocks....ion=air_shocks these for example... you'd be lucky to even get a fraction of an inch using just some regular replacement shock...
