Icon13 Don't Rely On Your Fuel Light!!

Well i was on the interstate heading somewhere when my truck looses power and my foot to the floor, nothing..About a sec later it kicks back into gear..Meanwhile my truck was ALMOST on E and no gas light so im good right?? Well when i left somewhere heading home on a regular highway, well it does it twice again, so im like **** i gotta get some gas, well i passed a gas station, and i was trying to make it to the regular place i feel up when.....

ALL POWER CEASES...tachs went down all light came on sterring COMPLETELTY LOCKED UP...i was like DDDAAAMMMNNNN. .. SO i steer it best i can into a parking lot..Waited a sec and it cranked up, so i babied it to the gas station i passed about 50 yards away...When i filled up it took a lil over my 16.5 gallon tank...cost 55$...

and to make it worse i only got 16.4 mpg...i usually get 18-19, so yeah

so NEVER EVER trust your gas light!!!! point well received truck Gods.

BEEN THERE!!!!

I usually fill up when my needle hits the red area (E) on the gauge... Never let it get lower than that, usually get about 13-14gal outta it too

whats average gas milage for 4.0?? 98 4x4

I bought my ranger to save on gas!!! I use to have an E 350 extended van for work but it was a gas hog...I mean, it cost me $$$ to haul my gas around
in that pig... about 10/11 miles a gallon!!! I usually just add $20.00 @ at time on my ranger ..cuts down a little on the weight.... unless I'm on a long trip.... I,m thinking I get about 16/17 with my trailer then around 20/21 with out....is that about right???

I usually fill up on Fridays now. I use to never fill up until the light was on, but now I can't afford to fill it when it's that low.

My Ranger doesn't have a gas light, so I just rely on my trip meter. Once I hit 280-300, it's fill up time.

My Dodge has a gas light, so I may use it. Last time I filled it up, it cost me $65. 20 gallons. And it was only at a quarter of a tank. 280 miles later, its back at a quarter.

Well, the red light is considered the dummy light.. if it blinks, just realize you better get to a gas station first thing and dont think about making it "to the next one" if you just passed on a block away, hehe

I always keep mine topped off.. that way I can hike it up in the middle of the night and scoot out into town and enver worry about getting low.. I've been with too many people that decide to go drive 40 miles and they are only at a quarter tank.. and that freaks me out, hehe

mine has no gas light but it has a 'check guage" light but that still never comes on its very inaccurate and same with the guage normally when the guage gets on E i go fill up and it takes 16 gal. but today when i filled up it was on E bu only took 14 gal. WTF

Wierd both my 01 and 04 rangers lights would go on at 240 miles and I would promptly put in 14-15 gallons in a 19 gallon tank. It was annoying as hell that it came on so early.

My gas light comes on when I've got about a gallon left... usually that's enough to get me to the next gas station.

you think you have problems? Try filling up, 17gallons, and your cruising down the road, gas light comes on, and gas gauage says u have 0 gas, zero, none, zip not a drop. and then goes back to full again... neat huh?

I bought my ranger to save on gas!!! I use to have an E 350 extended van for work but it was a gas hog...I mean, it cost me $$$ to haul my gas around

you think 10mpg is bad? Id KILL to have that in my work truck, which gets 7mpg in a 95 E350 cube van.

Mine doesn't even have a gas light, probably to old, or not wired.

From what I understand it is bad for the fuel pump if the tank is run with such little gas alot because the fuel pump is cooled by the gas in the tank, and without it, it heats up and wears faster.

I always fill up at 1/4 tank so I don't have to worry about running out of gas

i know what you mean, john, my '01's "fuel light" comes on when theres still 5 gallons of gas left in the tank. but, i guess thats in case your out wheeling in the middle of nowhere and need to drive 75 miles to a gas station.
