When I bought my truck, it came with one remote key fob, and it was marginally working (it would always lock the truck, but only occasionally unlock the truck), and the icons were starting to wear off the buttons.
I found a guy on ebay that sold new OEM key fobs that were identical to the one I already had (and it is important to get the same type/style... they're not all interchangeable, even within the same manufacturer). I think it ran me all of $25 shipped to my door. I programmed it it for my truck, and have been using it ever since with no problems or difficulties.
Also, don't pay for "programming directions" for these things... the procedure is clearly spelled out in your owner's manual.
Make sure you've gathered all
the key fobs you wish to use for your truck, then:
- Turn the key from OFF to ON eight times, stopping in the ON position.
The power locks will cycle to indicate you're in programming mode.
Push any button on the key fob.
The power locks will cycle to indicate they've received/accepted the fob signal.
Push any button on the next key fob.
Again, the power locks will cycle to indicate they've received/accepted the fob signal.
(continue as necessary for up to 8 key fobs)
Turn the key to the off position.
The power locks will cycle to indicate the key fob reprogramming is complete.
