Easiest Motor/Tranny Swap

I have a 86 bronco II, with a "2.9 and auto tranny".

I say that because there isnt enough there to make it worth my while. It would need to be rebuilt, and purchase EVERY motor accessory. And the tranny is stilling in the back of the truck, no telling if its "Good" or not.

So, whats my options? I want to stick to an auto, but for the right price i can do a manual...

Id be happy with a old lima 2.3, its just im looking for Easy install and wiring...

And if i get a good deal on a 2wd setup, how easy is it to make it work with a 4x4? Or how easy is it to find a tranny to match up? Ive got 2 guys trying to throw their 3.0s at me, but they are both 2wd trannys

Thanks for any info, input!

Oh, and id do another 2.9, but being as they are harder to find parts for, id rather swap to something more common

yeah, i remember your tranny work, How much would all of that run? I know you got the hookup on your parts and did the work yourself, but how much does all the parts run normally? Without really knowing transmittions, id rather just get a 4x4 tranny, specially cause I'm moving to Maine, and it will just be me and my dad doing the work

Well if your thinking 2.3 maybe a turbo swap from a tbird turbo coupe. Or maybe a 302, I've never done either but I figured I'd throw it out there for you. Just to give you a few more options. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

i have a areostar with a great 3.0 that would make a good doner, the trans works, and could be swaped to 4x4.

on which truck? the b2 has a 4x4 tranny, and the 2 3.0s ive looked at are 2wd trannys

ones a 92, others a 99

yes the OHV 4.0L from a 94 and older truck or explorer would be the easiest swap possible into something that was originally a 2.9L. They have the same bellhousing pattern, same engine mounting points, and the wireing is virtually a plug and play if you have the engine harness and the ECU. If you can find an entire front clip from a 4.0L truck or explorer and place it next to your B2 then its real easy to grab the parts you need and swap em over right there.
