maybe if i lose the bumper and better

wheels and tires
i know ive been going back and forth about thinking of lifting or lowing lol but it hard and a big thing to pick

don't lift an stx.... lifted STX/2wd=all show, no go...

no, if it fails in dirt and mud (which it will) it should not be lifted, the front bumper is already 1/4 of a full body kit... go with it, lower it... put the rest of the ground effects on, that SVT would have put on, if they had done the rest of it

I agree with lowering the stx. However saying a 2wd shouldn't be lifted is just bs. A lot of the offroad trucks are 2wd. 2wd can do enough to have fun without going extreme. Around here is you have a 2wd with a L/S or locker you can go just about anywhere. Hell i'm lifted and I have an open diff and go almost everywhere the 4wd's do here.

ok fair enough, but my honest opinion, if you are going to buy a truck to wheel in, by a 4 wheel drive, that is what they are designed for! 2wheel drive trucks don't come from the factory with all terains on them, or mudders, or off road tires... that is because they are not intended for that use... i can use a nissan sentra for moving plywood, but it's really not the right tool for the job...

plus, with that STX bumper, which from what my body shop tells me, is about double a regular bumper, and sits MUCH lower, would you really do any wheeling with it? i have always thought, 2wd, drop, 4wd, raise... but that's my opinion, and it's your truck...

the problem is i cant find any side skirts for that year , and ones that are not goofy lookin

hmmm, and unfortunately, ford didn't make a matching set... i hate body kits, 99% of the time, they are too extravagant, too rice, but every so often, i see one that looks almost stock... like the fox bodied mustang's... the one on the gt model, check it out...

one like mine, LX 5.0


or GT, only difference, is the body kit... and maybe interior, depending on the upgraded packages of above

You could lift it... but with the STX package it has all the fancy extras that are more street then dirt... Such as the bumper.

That said I think that pic of the lifted one you got looks kinda goofy with the Bumper on it... and the big rims look weird too, but then i never really liked big rims.

I say lower it but not too much... get some 18"s Ithink it'll look slick.

Lower it. Keep the bumper. I think your truck looks pretty pissed with that bumper and that color...It would look even meaner if it was lowered with some nice wheels...size is up to you, I personally like 20" rims on rangers, but you might think thats too big.

OMG yes, i didn't even notice that! i was too distracted by the 6 inches of black on the rocker behind the front fender... BUT, i like the ride height with the STX grill and those rims/tires

unrelated, is that an STX specific box? it's not quite flareside, and it's definitely not styleside... almost like a b2500...

Yeah thats a Mazda B series box... Seen a few around with them. Mostly dual sports though....

I like the STX lowered or lifted. Its unique in a way. Oh and James, just because a truck doesnt come from the factory with any kind of off-road tires doesnt mean jack. Thats why the sell tires so I can put whatever I want to on my truck. When I was at the Ford dealership, the tires did not look all that different on the 2wd or 4wd. They all look like street tires to me

kind of sad, how the STX has gone from the premier 4X4 lifted Ranger back in 1986-1993 to a 2WD street vehicle. I guess time changes all.

true, true... but i am fairly sure that the 4wheel drive models DO come with an a/t tire, or a m/s tire, either way though, i think 2wheel drive trucks should stick to the pavement, and 4wheel drive are for off roading... if you don't agree, that's fine, but will you atleast agree to disagree?

i hear ya... i would think it was due to the introduction of the fx4 and later, fx4 level II packages... but i'm not entirely sure...

fx4's come with all terrains. xl xlts and edges 4 or 2wd come with street tires. fx4's are designed for off road. thats why it says so on the sticker lol. some people have 4wd drive just cause of the conditions they live in and never take it off the pavement. not off road specific.

that being said i'll cruise around in the dirt with 2wd but never think for a second i have 4wd...



also lower the stx

Oh ya. I am not trying to argue with you. Just thinking out loud. I think the FX4 ones come with a M/S tire but it doesnt look much better than a street tire to me. 2wd off the pavement is fun. Makes it more of a challenge

For me I dont need a 4wd. I just needed something a little taller since I dont like having to bend down to get in a truck and a little better tire. On the farm I go sometimes into so sketchy areas and my old street tires were no good. Also, our farm in Kentucky gets really bad cause its a mud path up a hill.
