in most casses yes glass packs get louder because of the fiberglass packing in them starts to ware out but like the chambered flowmasters there is no glass packing in them they dont corroded the get some what of an amount of carbon and other exhaust build ups in them that will make it more quite than loud in this case the cat is most deff the problem take it out beat the **** out of it put it back in or straight pipe it.

Ok, sorry to revive a dead thread, but i just bought a new Flowmaster Super 44 and I had it put on (and i watched and they put it on right) with a turn out in front of the back wheel. Its a one in one out. And it sounds like stock. Guy mentioned break in period, and ive done some looking up, but noone had said anything about super 44s. Ive been running with no muffler for some time now, so i know it can be loud (cats not plugged) lol. Anyone have this muffler and like to share? Thanks :)

Edit: I have the 3.0

But seriously i think the consensus is that only fiberglass mufflers have break in periods so who knows.

Is it dumped out the side before the passenger side rear tire or does it go all the way out the back.

When I got my Gibson Exhaust put on. It was more quite than the stock exhaust. But the guy who installed it said it usually takes 5,000 miles to break in the muffler to deepin the tone and to where its louder.

From my expereince with both magnaflow and flowmasters, all NON glass pack mufflers, they all get a little louder after a few weeks. The magnaflow on my truck currently got a lot louder after about three weeks. It is single in dual out the back

The installer want you to drive it long enough to run out of the 90 day warranty. Get something in writing if it doesn’t sound right and the installer says dirve it for “X” number of miles to break it in. If he says he will replace it if it doesn’t sound like you want then OK, do your worse but to me most all metal mufflers are what they are…
