Tailgate capacity

Anyone know what the weight limit is for a Ranger tailgate? I may pick up some ramps tomorrow and was wondering if I can use them on the gate or if I should take it off and put them directly onto the bed.

When in doubt...it only takes a little bit of time to pop the tailgate off.

Yep your 5lbs under haha. I'm sure you'll be fine, just make sure the cables for the tailgate are in good condition.

My buddy who is not even 200lbs broke one of my tailgate supports.

But when I replaced it, only 1 is tight

I agree, but mine's a little more of a pain in the *** because I've got a power tailgate lock. Still doable... just takes longer!

Thats how mine is. After I replaced mine one was more loose than the other.

I've had probably 600+ lbs of bouncing people on the tailgate, but you never know

It'll be fine. I load my mower up all the time with the ramps on the tailgate and have no issues.

I picked up a v8 for a friend and the guy who we bought it from dropped it off the lift onto my tailgate. Bent the hell out of it but it didnt break or anything. You should be fine. I've loaded up mowers since then and I've never had a problem.

I use to run my 650lb 4 wheeler + 200lb me on my gate on my Ranger all the time. I hope my F150 gate can take it, I'll be trying it tomorrow.

lol thanks guys. I guess the full 700lbs wouldn't be on the gate anyways, it'd be split between each end of the ramp... on the tailgate and on the ground. Hopefully they have a set left. CT has them on for $88.88 for a pair of 7' arched folding ramps.

Something to think about.... IDK how newer trucks are but my stock straps were nylon bands and when the truck was about 7 or 8 years old, I was lowering my tailgate in the rain and my hand slipped off the tailgate cap and the gate dropped...snapped both straps. The replacements were aftermarket "Help!" brand units and they are steel braid cable. Surely better than what was on my truck stock.

Age deteriorates the straps. And I live in basically a non-humid non-corrosion environment.

Just a lil something to think about.

In some way it should be stronger than a full size tailgate because it's not as wide. But yea, you should be fine.

I'll check out those aftermarket cables... I know what you mean about the nylon. They don't look strong but they seem to work! I got the ramps and tested them out today, worked great!
