hey guys i hooked up a vacum gauge to my rig over the weekend and im wondering if i did it right i get a reading from the gauge and they seem fine but the hose i hooked it up to original ran into my intake system now i hooked it up to the hose of the vacum gauge and the port for the intake is open does this sound right do i just cover up the port ?

also when i slam the gas the gauge drops to 5 oand stays there until i let off i know its supposed to go to 5 but is it supposed to stay there while the gas is slammed ?

yes, if the throttle is wide open, there is no (or very little) vaccum. ive had a guage for about 2 years now, real intresting to see the effects of wind restance and trailer towing loads. the higher reading you can maintain, the better your fuel milage. its also let me know that 45 is about as fast as i can pull the trailer and not drink fuel. at 65 it stays buried, maybe 5 at best. at 55 its around 10 and at 45 mph its around 11-15 depending on how level the road is and if im driving into or with the wind. im not sure what you mean about how youve hooked it up and having a open port. i hooked mine into one of the barbs coming off the intake, you dont want a open port giving you a constant vaccum leak. you can "T" off a hose but remember if you ever remove the guage you need to plug off where you hooked in to.
