Finally did FIRST oil change

@ 7,476 miles

I did change the original oil filter at 2k and replaced the filter again at 5k.

Officially using Amsoil now along with an Ea Amsoil filter.

I would have never left the original oil in there that long, but that's just me. I like the first one @ 1000 miles, and 3000 mile intervals thereafter.

I'm switching over to Amsoil on my next oil change and I will be changing it every 7500. Right now I am using 4 quarts of Castrol Syntech and one quart of Lucas with the Amsoil filter.

Plan on doing 7,500 mile OCI during warranty and then every 15,000 miles/12 months after that. And trust Amsoil when they claim that their S.S. 0w-30 won't void my warranty.

I would run it longer but it just seems wrong. LOL. There are many people that change it every 15K and have not problems but still.

Wow. That seems like a long time to me. I change the oil/filter on my bike every 500 miles.

Yeah but you have to remember that bikes are wet clutch and the tranny and engine share the same fluid so shorter intervals are required. I don't have an hour meter on my quad so I usually change it every 4-6 rides.

Yeah, my bike is a dry sump, so it hold a little more than a traditional dirtbike (1.8 quarts~it's a supermotard), but singles are definitely hard on oil w/ the shearing in the tranny, and besides, they work very hard. Cheap insurance. On the Ranger, I think i'll stay the course w/ my 3K intervals. It just feels right.

3000 on dino oil. Synthetics are made to be ran longer and really good synthetics like Amsoil are designed to be ran even longer.

Hmmmm. Let me take a stab at it. It's a Suzuki and it has 400cc's of displacement?

Used to be 3K-5K but now Ford recommends 5K-8K

Some of that is probably due to the fact that each car company wants to claim that their vehicles cost less to maintain and service, and some is because oil and filter quality have improved over the years. And I just worked on a VW that recommends 10K.

I'm not sure how much longer you can go without changing it on a bike. If you do buy Amsoil be sure you get their motorcycle oil because it has no friction modifiers in it.

I understand the importance of changing the oil frequently on a single cylinder 4-stroke, and the type of oil to use. I was guessing at what kind of quad you had.

i can see 7-10, maybe 13k on synthetic, but i would never put 7,000 on the origional oil.

Seeing how Motorcraft has been pushing their syn-blends for the past few years, I really doubted that the crankcase was filled with low quality oil from the factory. And I did say that I changed the filter a couple of times, and I topped oil off with Motorcraft full synthetic when I replaced the filter @ 2k and 5k. Almost decided to stick with the Motorcraft full synthetic, but I was able to buy the Amsoil "Signature Series" oil for less.

i've always done oil changes at 3000 mile intervals. but, then again, i only put 6000 miles on my truck each year, so 6 months between changes isn't too bad.

To me, it's not so much the quality of the oil Ford puts in the engine initially, it's the breaking in of the engine, and the microscopic metal particles possibly produced during the process that I want out of there at by 1000 miles. Odds are that it's perfectly fine, but it gives me peace of mind knowing that i've put clean oil it soon after break-in.

You're supposed to do it every 3 months OR 3000 miles, whichever comes first.
