passenger side airbag

I mounted my gps on the passenger airbag cover. I tried to pop it off first, I thought it was held on by clips that would pop out, but the thing would not come out. I also put one screw through the middle of the mount, but a very short one. Now the orange light is on, and flickers, sometimes If I bang the cover the light will turn off. What do you guys think? can I fix it? or does it need to go to a dealer, airbags I know nothing about. Or, should I just turn it off?

A dealer is going to want to replace the airbag since you have done that to it, they wont be able to just repair it since its a safety device. If the bag is on and you have an accident then its dangerous to have that mounted on the airbag. I would mount it elsewhere and get the bag fixed.

doesnt the thing flip down in an impact? i thought that the cover has hinges on either the bottom or top and when the airbag deploys it nocks the cover open and the cover flips down. Otherwise, wouldnt it just peg the person in the face? Am I right or no?

I think the cover splits in half when the airbag deploys. Either way you have the risk of flying parts with anything attached to the cover.

Why the Hell did you mount it on your airbag? If you haven't already taken it off. Do so and pray it never has to be used. Go find a good one in a junk yard.

The cover is part of the air bag. Its connected to the top and bottom of the motor behind it. You need to take that thing off of it and get the bag replaced because most likely it will now fail or not work properly. Right behind that little flap is the bag all squished up and a motor with very sensitive sensors attached...you probably broke a sensor

I think it is the perfect location for the gps unit, I use it for all of my music and also watch movies on it on road trips, I wanted to keep it out of plain sight, and did not want it on the dash or windshield because it gets in the way of my vision, much more than it would in other vehicles.
But, everyone is telling me to take it off.
I dont know about the whole replacing the airbag thing, the light isn't on anymore and I think it would cost a **** load of money

Where do you all have yours mounted?
