this is rests on the luck of your draw. Some 4.0's get AWESOME mileage (those who can generally afford it get awesome mileage hehehe) while the rest of us get 'average'

road trips your lookin at about 19-21mpg on a 4.0 around town, about 16mpg in the winter tho, when the gov wants to suck more money out of you, they make u run crappy fuel, and your mileage drops to about 13-15mpg. On a 4.0

the 3.0's dont have the 'oomph' behind them... and when you lay into them, the power just inst there like it is on the 4.0

I get 20.4 with my 3.0 and 32s. Thats with 50% city 50% highway. I can get 17-18 all city if I baby it everywhere. With stock tires I could get probably 20 everywhere.

I could get 22 mpg with an OHV 4.0l and around 20 with a SOHC 4.0l.

I am not that harsh on the skinny petal. when I baby it all the time I can see 13mpg but can never break that barrier. I drive roughly 80-90 percent in the city though. I regret getting an automatic.

Give me the magic gas that you're using! I haven't calculated mine yet but wouldn't be surprised if it was less than 14mpg, probably worse. Maybe an exhaust and a few other things could help?

according to EPA, the 3.0L and 4.0L SOHC equipped Rangers are pretty "equal" in the MPG department.. check out http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/sbs.htm and compare.

yea my truck gets really crappy mileage and i have a 4.0
i hate it with the gas prices now.
but yea i used to drive a 3.0 ranger and paying for the extra gas is worth the extra power i think.
i get around 15-17 mpg
