squeaky front end

Recently my truck is so squeaky. Whenever I go over bumps or turn the steering, it loudly squeaks. EVERYONE knows I'm coming. I can't drive with stealth anymore. I really want to get it fixed.
I asked a couple of guys, they say it's nothing bad, that sometimes when vehicles age they get squeaky like that.
I'm wondering if any of you guys have encountered this also and were you able to get it fixed and quiet again?
I used to love the nice quiet turns.

just fixed mine inadvertently by replacing uper control arms with ball joints..tie rod ends and lower ball joints and no more squeak

IMO I think its partly the rubber boot on the end of your tie rod shears away then its metal on metal as you steer...AND the up and down is the slight play in a bootless ball joint verticaly

Thanks so much guys. I took it to the mechanic, he said the ball joints are bad. It's at the shop right now getting repaired. Costing $490, but it's something that has got to get done. It's at 82,000 miles. Is that around the approximate mileage when you all noticed squeaking too?

the ones on my 98' ford explorer started squeaking like yours at around 90,000 miles. I traded the truck in with 210,000 miles on those original ball joints :) still squeaked

It isn't only the ball joints, he also had to get the arms for them too. I guess it's a whole arm with ball joint thing he had to get and he said I needed four. Is that still a bad price? Includes the price of labor also.

I just checked, the average price for one arm and ball joint is 80-100$, that times 4 plus labor for a female who doesn't know what is what, is not so bad, right? Probably bad for a guy who knows what to do and who could just switch it out himself though.

Thats not too bad. Its very rare for someone to do it themselves, you need to have a special tool for it and some knowledge.
the reason you need the arm too is because Ford is mean, They used parts that weren't all that serviceable, so when they went bad. they had to be replaced. I hope the ones they install on your truck are grease-able. otherwise you'll be back here again when those ones decide to squeak.

I guess I just got lucky, mine didn't start squeaking until around 147k. But at that amount of miles, pretty much the whole front end just gives up. I needed upper ball joints, lower ball joints, lower control arms, upper control arms, and sway bar links. Since then, I've also replaces the shocks, after all of that, I finally eliminated the squeak. lol

When I had mine done I bought the parts and had a shop install them and it was close to $500 for parts and labor. They did the upper and lower ball joints and inner and outer tie rod ends.
