my windshield wiper motor has been making noise every once in awhile for the last few weeks, last night it finally went dead.

i got a new one. looked at the haynes manual and was shocked at how intense the changing is (atleast i think it is).

anyone replaced one of these and have any advice.

I thought that mine was done for but it turned out that the linkage arms were frozen in place, I have the Haynes manual and I went through the entire process as if I was replacing the motor, on my '00 you will need a 1 1/4in wrench to get the black plastic nut off, they call it the pinion nut or something in the book. Then the linkage access panel uses, I cant remember what size, it is common though. Good luck to you, dont know if my '00 and your truck are related enough but good luck!!

 

Here is a Step-by-Step how to do this:

Time: 1.2 Hrs

REMOVAL


Cycle windshield wipers until they are in straight up position, then turn ignition switch to OFF position.
Disconnect battery ground cable, then the wiper motor electrical connector.
Remove righthand wiper arm and blade assembly, then the righthand pivot nut and allow linkage to drop into cowl.
Remove linkage access cover from righthand side of dash panel.
Release wiper motor retaining clip, then slide clip back until it clears nib on crank pin, and remove the clip.
NOTE: The wiper motor retaining clip can be reached through the access cover opening.

Remove wiper linkage from motor crank pin.
Remove motor attaching screws and the motor.
INSTALLATION


Install wiper motor and torque attaching screws to 10-14 ft lb.
Connect wiper motor electrical connector, then install clip onto righthand linkage, ensure clip is fully seated.
NOTE: Do not install linkage on motor crank pin, then attempt to install clip.

Install lefthand linkage onto motor crank pin, then the righthand linkage onto crank pin, pulling linkage onto pin until it snaps into place.
NOTE: Clip is properly installed if nib is protruding through center of clip.



Install righthand wiper pivot shaft and nut and torque to 7-10 ft lb .
Connect battery ground cable, turn ignition switch to ON position, turn wiper switch OFF so wiper motor will PARK, then turn ignition switch to OFF position.
Install righthand linkage access cover, then the righthand wiper blade and arm assembly and check for proper operation.

first of all, i cant cycle wipers cause they do not move.
What side is considered right side? depends on if your inside truck or standing looking at it from the front?
The access panel on the drivers side is too small to reach in. they must mean the one in the center near the motor, right?

 

Can you move them by hand? If not it is fine, leave them where ever they are at. The right side is the passanger side. the only time this changes is when you are working on the motor, then they sides are swapped, Right is driver and left is passanger.

 

yes i can move them by hand. i got the panel off near the motor and can feel the back of the motor, but i cant seem to understand this part..

seems like it would be a pain the the butt if you cant see the clip that you have to remove.

please help me on this.......i refuse to drive my civic in the snow, expecially with all this salt on the roads.

if i dont do it myself by friday or saturday, i will take it to my brothers garage and have him help me.
