hurst shifter "still" leakin

hurst shifter "still" leakin
i installed a hurst about a mouth ago and it leaked, no surprise, so i cut a 1/8 notch in the base plate removing about 1/2 the material, then used orange gasket seal and put it all back together making sure not to block the vent i cut.... well now it leakes out the vent, anyone have any ideas as to what i might try next ???

... oil from the transmission,common problem with hurst shifters.

Oh. I didnt know that. I though you might have meant it was leaking water or something lol. Im soon getting a hurst, so this thread will probably help me as well.

there are several threads on this same subject. mine has started leaking as well and I have gone through all the threads I could find but I haven't seen anything that is guaranteed to stop the leek...so for now it is still leaking...

... some people say they never had a leak but other like me are running into problems, i'd think twice about buying a hurst unless you don't mind cleaning up trans oil and the smell on the inside of your truck...

exactly why I wont get a hurst. i don't care how nice it feels, i would much rather deal with the crappy stock shifter than have to deal with this

Quit being such a girl.

There isn't anything wrong with the hurst shifter. If it leaks, and you did properly add the vent i'd say you're doing it wrong.

If all else fails, you can drill and tap the top of your transmission and run a tube to vent it (much like your axle or t-case)

.... grant: i see you have a hurst also in an 06, did you did tap the top of the trans ?

had mine for a few weeks now....no leaks

i grooved the base with a file maybe an 1/8th of an inch and used gray gasket sealer

.. thats what i did too, but it leaks out the vent i cut..

this is what gumby came up with

so far so good. reservoir will fill up about halfway on a long drive, and as the tranny cools down the fluid drains back in. :wiggle:

All I have in mine is I cut out some gasket material to fit where it mates to the trans. Cut out a notch in the gasket to form a little vent. No leaking as of yet. A little bit of sweating, and if my trans gets really hot, I can smell it a little, but thats it.

I think you have to drop the trans to get that inspection cover off

i have read that you can't get it off unless it's dropped. unless you are body lifted, then there may be a chance. That's why most people won't do that unless they have to pull the tranny for a clutch or something.
