The only reason I don't have it on is because I got rid of the flange completely. The exhaust I bought would not seal against the stock flange so I had an exhaust shop chop it out and weld in a pipe. All well. If it happens then it happens.

What I will do later is have mandrel bent Y pipe made with new cats and I will have them install a similar flange in the stock location.

He doesn't mean taking the spring flange off and putting one back on, he means taking it off and putting a standard flange back on in place of the spring flange.

The engine flexes and moves. If the exhaust doesn't have some way to relieve the pressure of it, it will break things like that exhaust manafold. The spring flange acts like a bushing in the exhaust system.

No I was going to install a spring flange not just a regular flange. Hell I might even do a flex pipe.

maybe on a stock truck/car but this will not happen on a good aftermarket. I dont know any aftermarket header to tip systems with that set up.

My friends Bel air with a 454 does not have a flange spring and that engine moves alot!

josh, i showed you proof, what more do you want?

How is a 50s exhaulst system diffrent then todays? He just put it on last year.
You showed me 1 pic of a cracked header that "might" have been due to no spring bolt. I see tons of cars without them driving

I'm alittle confused here

If the exhaust is held up by rubber hangers, that should give the exhaust enough wiggle room right? I don't see how 1 set of spring loaded exhaust flanges would make that much of a difference that it would crack the exhaust header
