Alright, i bought my truck back in the end of april. it was a trade in at a nissan dealer. when i was test driving it, i heard a faint noise coming from the front right tire, almost liek the noise you'd hear if your rotor was warped. (wasn't the rotor at all tho). i asked the sales guy what the noise was, and he told me it was nothing, just the tires are bigger and a bit louder than what im used to. (i drove a neon before.. so what did i know about tire noise). once he told me that, i felt fine with it. anyway.. i bought the truck, along with some 5 year quality plus warrenty. here i am, a few months later.. and that noise seems like its getting a bit louder/ more noticable. i took my truck back to the dealer to have it looked at. i called a few hours later to ask how they were doing with my truck.. would they need it over night, etc.. and was told it shouldnt be much longer.. but that they couldn't really tell what it was beucase they're used to working on nissans.. and mine is a ford.. blah blah blah.. anyway.. they call me back a couple hours later.. and tell me that the front right wheel is "choppy" and then tell me i'm going to need to replace the tire.. they tried to get me to buy a set of tires, each 130 or so.. i told them i'd hold off cuase i could get better for less.

i brought the truck home, and told a friend of mine what they told me (he's a mechanic at a ford dealer) he took it for a ride, then felt the tire thread, and told me the alignment was slightly off, and the tread is raised, lowered in some areas, and more than likely it was caused by the belts within shifting somewhat.. here's my question.. i now need a new tire (it'll actually be a pair sinse i dont want to buy just one tire).. should i do anything about the dealer not fixing this problem before i bought the truck? or is it just my bad luck, and just pay the consiquences of taking the sales guy's word.

 

well are the tires covered under your warranty deal?
i wouldnt think so its since theres really no telling on when and what happened to the tire. granted you noticed it b4 you bought the truck but they can always say that you did it and not replace it

thats what im pretty much thinking thats whats gonna happen. my dad was there for the test ride too.. me him and the dealer guy would remember me asking what the noise was.. but how likely is the dealer guy gonna say Yeah, I told him it was normal, nothing wrong. It sucks.

 

Once you accepted the truck and drove it off that was probably it.
You might try to get them to give you an alignment as a preexisting condition (that will be tough also) but I doubt they will cover tire replacement.
Even on a new truck that would be questionable. :cry:

 

ltting you know, you DO NOT HAVE TO GO BACK TO NISSAN to fix it.... the externded warranty purchased was from an outside company and any dealer can put in a claim for the truck service. I had soemtihng similiar happen when i bought my truck used at a Dodge dealership and jsut had FORD do all my work I needed with the transmission etc...

 

i actually asked the service manager at the nissan dealer about that, he said it would be fine to do that.. all i'd have to do is find a Ford dealer that deals with Quality Plus warrenties.. theres like 6 ford dealers within 10 miles of my house it seems like.. so i shouldnt have any problem finding one thatll work with my warrenty.

they PROBABLY wont cover tires in the warranty, specially cause its used.

I have a great idea though, so tell me what kind of tires are on there now, and if they are the right kind i think i can greatly assist you.

 

All 4 tires on the truck are Goodyear Wrangler RT/S.... size 245 75 16

 

ok this is a good idea in my opinion, but it may require a lot of researching and running around.

OK, what I would do, is go to discount tire, purchase one P245/75r16 goodyear Wrangler RT/S (carry out) WITH the road hazard warranty. put the tire away for now. next go to a different dicount tire and tell them that the tire is crap and it is out of round and you want them to load force the tire (if its messed up the load force will recommend a new tire). then if they proceed to give you a new one, take the brand new tire to a tire place that doesnt keep computerized records, tell the that you purchased the tire a while ago, while making sure they sell goodyears, never used it and want a refund.


its scandilous but i beleive itll work if you are persistant enough. its a lot of work but you will get a new tire!

I would just replace all 4 tires...
you could upgrade to the 265/75R16 while you are at it..
You couldnt GIVE me another goodyear rt/s
Throw on some quality tires not those POS.
Mine wore so bad they sounded like boggers and hydroplaned
dangerously at 15000 miles. I now have almost 23000 on my toyos and they are good for another 20-30k easily.





They were replaced with 4 toyo open country all terrains.
430$ for 4 including alignment , all taxes, lifetime rotate and balance.. etc etc.

haha im gonna wait and get them replaced soon.. im not sure what they've got on them, i bought the truck from a dealer used.. the truck itself has 68000, and they look like they still got a while left on them.. mine sound like the same thing Rand said.. like boggers on pavement, well one of them does at least.. its horrible. i just gotta wiat about another month to put tires on.. till then its alright to drive with that tire like that, right?

 

hey Rand, do you have a shot of the tires on the truck from a bit further away?? I just wanna see what they look like overall.

 

have a tire shop rotate it into the right rear for now and you should be fine.

 

I just went to the ford dealer my friend works at today.. he gave me a free alignment and rotated the tire to the rear for now.
