Hi, i've been seriously thinking about getting a bama tuner. I know there are several people here that have them and have good things to say about them. I just have a few questions before i put my money into one. It seems like it would be kind'a an expensive mod.

First, does it take a while for your mileage to improve after you program it? I thought i heard that your computer needs to relearn its strategy.

Second, do the custom tunes remove the rev limmiter? I generally don't rev my engine that high. I'm just worried that i could damage something.

And last, What tunes should i get? I think it comes with 3 of them doesn't it?

Just some info, I have 120k miles on my engine, automatic trans and an E-fan.

it does remove the rev limiter. I have a 87 torque, 93 horsepower(havn't tried yet), and a 93 torque(currently running).

 

I'm not sure what kind of gains you will get with the old OHV 4.0L but as far as power goes with a SOHC his mail order tunes make as much as 17hp over stock on the wheels and about 20Lb/ft of torque. Doug can get more if he has a chance to dyno the truck with an A/F meter. I haven't gotten mine yet but I just ordered it 3 days ago so I can't wait to try it out.

 

i think you get to choose how high the rev limiter gets set. im not sure.

 

I am also interested in a Bama. I see on the site you can adjust shift points, advance or retard timing, tire size, gears, Traction control...all sorts of fun things. Can you really change all of that?

 

Cole rangers dont have traction control lol...anyways.


Cal honistly idk if you can get a tuner for the older 97 trucks idk if its the new program yet or not you will have to email doug or get ahold of the guys over at Jensus modified and ask them if your truck applies

 

I didn't think of that. I assumed that since i have an OBD-II it would work. I sent them an email.

 

I thought it added TC? I just seen it on the site there and wondereded.

I thought rev limiter was only when you are in Park or Nuetral, is speed limiter or shift points what you are asking about? or do you really sit there and just rev for no reason?

 

I always thought the rev limiter was for all gears. What i was talking about was if i ever floor it(in any gear) and rev it up real high. I don't know if it could damage any thing.

 

I'm pretty sure you can RAISE the limiter without REMOVING it.

 

There is a factory rev limiter in P, R and N for automatics... 3,000 rpms. There is also a limiter when driving... I don't know the exact range, something around 5,000rpms. Superchips allows you to raise the limiter in 100rpm increments, or maybe thats shift points... can't remeber...

so, what do you notice when driving. I've heard people describe that their truck has more "umph". I plan to keep my truck for a very long time so one may be a good investment.
