Totaled
Well insurance had me on the phone today, in body damage alone, they were up to 10K and she said she had to pull the plug. As of monday, the Ranger will be totaled. I'm in the hunt for a new one, one you go Ranger you cant go back, but if it comes to that I may have to. Sucky part is i cant even get my **** out of it, everything has to be left as is, well I'll keep you guys updated with the new search, and hopefully soon will have a new baby.

Sorry about your loss, glad to hear you're getting another one.
I work at a body shop and a lot of times they charge you for towing, estimates, storage ect ect. and it eats up the priciple that is left and you usualy have to sign the title to the place its at and let them get thier money back via salvage. Maybe not the case here but that happens a lot. I get cars like that all the time, if I'm lucky with no salvage title so I can put them on the frame machine, slap some jap repro parts on it and a paint job and make some money for nothing.

If you had comp (comprehensive) insurance, make them pay you for the equipment as well. Why mess with old stuff, lol?
If you ever look at my Cardomain, page 2 features my first Ranger -- had it a year and totalled it on a rainy turn sliding into a telephone pole.
I went right out and bought another one, and it's much better than the first one. I got lucky in that sales were down and I got both a good price and 0 percent financing.

yeah I've been looking, got a small budget to work with, epsecialy now my insurance is thru the roof, and i think this time I should keep my modding to a minimum lol, but that will be hard to resist. The insurance place said if i wanna re-install all the stock equipment i can take what i want, but my head lights got smashed, same with the clear corners, my KC off road lights as well, and the rain ruined my speakers, and the head unit may be ruined as well. But tm I am going to take my exhaust tip, and some pics, so I'll have them up tm. thanks for the support guys

I had a super clean 1988 that got hit in 1993, and it was a borderline wreck as far as being totalled and would have been a fairly easy repair job since there was very little body damage.
I had many extras installed, and had asked the insurance company whether I should put back the stock components and remove the add on items, they had me make a list, giving the purchace price of those items, (bed liner, bed mat, light bar and lights, trailer hitch, bug shield, seat cover, high end stereo system, etc...), and to my surprise, they paid me the additional amount for those items. I would have simply ket them to reuse them on a replacement truck, but they didn't wan't anything removed, and promptly paid me the additional money. If I hadn't asked, I wouldn't have gotten paid any extra. I owned the truck outright, so there wasn't a bank involved, and I mailed the title in the next day certified mail, and had my check by the end of the week. The insurance adjuster hadn't even looked at the extras, he only listed the damage.
It all worked out fine for me anyhow since the next truck was a different body style, and a lot of the items that went with the other truck were either already on the new truck when I got it, or simply wouldn't have fit the newer bodystyle.
I had considered buying it back and fixing it, I even discussed it with my insurance company, but they were actually paying me more for it than I could have ever sold it for after I fixed it.
I did miss my stereo system that went with the truck, but when I thought about it after the fact, it was 1988 technology which was almost 5 years old at the time, and the insurance company paid me back what I had paid for it new, minus sales tax. I had all of my original reciepts, and had submitted them with the title. I can't speak for all insurance companies, but that one was more than fair. It certainly wouldn't hurt to ask in your case either.
When it was all over, I had a truck that was 5 years newer, with no miles and no problems, and since I didn't opt for 4x4 on the new truck, the new truck was actually a good bit less than the amount they paid me for the old truck, leaving me with some extra money to play with.

I fought tooth and nail with my insurance company, but if there is aftermarket stuff on there, THEY MUST PAY YOU FOR IT if they won't let you take it out. I did the same thing with my lift, wheels, tires, exhaust, etc. etc on my old truck and I ended up getting money for it all in my settlement! Then I bought the truck back and sold it all piece by piece and made even more money. Of course it's been a year and I still have truck parts all over the place, but it was a good learning experience too, haha.
Sorry to hear about your loss, but good luck finding a new vehicle!

Eh, this has always been a real confusing issue for me... but say i totalled my truck.. the insurence company is insuriung my truck in its BASIC bare bones state, my adjuster came right out and said it. so, that means, i can take everything off it, my lights, my tails (i still got the oems) my skid plates, my radio, my cover, my bed rug, my waag, my step bars, my mud flaps, my KC's, my bug shield, all MY wiring harnesses, and the insurence can lick my well you know what if they ever pulled that crap with me. Just cause i totalled it doesnt mean they automatically own it. therefore the truck is STILL MINE, and since its mine i can take whatever the hell i want off it, as long as it remains stock. pick out a truck that has no tint, no step bars no fogs, and u got my truck.
see thats what i dont get, if u added all this stuff, truck is still urs, who are they to say 'oh well, since u wrecked u no longer own it' ya i say F that! Im paying for it, its mine, no buy backs no nothing. just cause u wrecked, doesnt change the fact that the truck is urs. till u sign it over that sucker is urs and they cant say crap. especially in my case since they insured a STOCK ranger.
