clear corners (on Rangers) are illegal in every state as they violate a Federal Law regrding a yellow colored side reflector
the yellow corner on our Rangers allows the truck to comply - take it off and replace it with a CC (and no other yellow side reflector) and you are in violation under standard 108

I have yellow LEDS in my CC - they look like a yellow reflector at night
putting a colored bulb in a CC does not 'get around' the regulation calling for a yellow side reflector
you probably will never get a ticket, but if you ask if they are legal, they are not
that is a Federal regulation for side marker reflectors

Law mandates that you have Orange/Amber REFLECTIVE material at the front of the vehicle.

Christian, I didn't have clears for 20+ years, but I have been driving for a long time and usually either had them, or knew people with them.

Michigan has no emissions, safety or any other inspection -- you can get away with it. Just stay away from dark tint -- the troopers will get you!

I'm pretty sure the feds can't say jack about the color of your reflectors, that's a state thing. More likely they make a set of recommendations that they then force your state to abide by or else they will withhold highway funding! The same is true for mandatory seat-belt laws, motorcycle helmet laws, and even the 'national' drinking age. Basically it's like governmental extortion in my opinion.

I heard Louisiana was holding out on the drinking age bit for a while. The fed docked their highway funding accordingly.

NH's motorcycle helmet law is actually written around this. It says "..is not required as a condition to the receipt by the state of any federal funds, paragraphs I and II shall be void." Word has it the federal restrictions on MC helmet laws was lifted in '96. So technically we have no mandatory law at all..

But anyway..

If that sentence was in respect to what I said about mandating laws -- I meant Michigan Law, as I lived there and know the law.

It was in reference to the 'federal mandate' term thrown around here. Although yeah, I thought you meant it was a fed law of some sort..

I think it has everything to do with officer discretion. Around here it really does not matter as long as there is a orange bulb in the case, but if you have a blue bulb in a clear lens they will tag you for it.

Howell...Michigan? Anyway, I got puled over for speeding [sure...] in DC and he actually liked my blue bulbs in the clears. Also got pulled over in Michigan for my tint and he didn't say anything.

I can only go on what I know from word-of-mouth and personal experience. I had them [clears] on my Focus, Ranger and I have smoked clears, headlights and turnsignals on the Mustang...

hmm..

well i have talked to mny officers about having clear corners before i got them. i have been pulled over a few times and had full inspections of the outside of my truck.. checked my tail lights and all. the only problem they had was when i put GREEN bulbs in. i talked to officer that i know pretty well and he told me that Michigan's law states that all front end lights must be clear/white or amber but that is all. i made sure and asked if i had to have any amber at all and he said no. i have never had a problem with my bulbs. i now have blue-ish bulbs in my blinkers and have been pulled over since and all the one cop did was admire it for a while...
